Adobe photoshop question

Is there anyway I can take a picture I saved from the web and blow it up in Photoshop without the pixels exploding and getting distorted? I need to see the detail in on tiny portion of a shot of a boat but every time I try to magnify it the pixels get distorted and I lose the details. Any help would be appreciated!

Thanks,
Mike

Most web based pictures are 72 dpi or less. That being said, I don't think so.

Bugger. Ah well, thought it was worth a try. Thanks for taking the time to answer though!

You've grasped the issue. The details get distorted because there are no details. 72 dpi. is built for speed in loading web-pages, and anything above that is usually noted as "hi-res" or 1024 x 768 or some such arcana.

These days, you will often see some sort of link to the hi-res version of the picture, as the "thumbnail" will suffice to get the point across.
