Going beyond stereotypes
Tonight, I spent a couple of hours talking with two people, whom if I accepted the stereotypes of their looks, I would have thought they had nothing to offer by way of conversation. It would have been my loss had I not talked with them. Not only did they both have much to offer, the 31 yr old woman, who would have attracted my attention just with her looks, was one of the wisest, most perceptive people I've ever talked with.
I bring this up, because I know how easy it is to accept stereotypes, and dismiss people for purely superficial reasons. Even when we know we shouldn't. Though first impressions may be lasting, we know nothing until we know the person for who they are, not just what they look like.

Very true... one of my best friends has made that point many times... since he has a physical disability, and many people seem to think that anyone with a physical disability are automatically mentally defective. He just graduated with his Master's degree in Social Work, from one of the best programs in the country. One of the greatest compliments he's ever paid me is when he said I was the "first person who never saw his crutches".

You know what the first rule of sailing is? ...Love. You can learn all the math in the 'verse, but you take
a boat to the sea you don't love, she'll shake you off just as sure as the turning of the worlds. Love keeps
her going when she oughta fall down, tells you she's hurting 'fore she keens. Makes her a home.

John,
Does that mean that CruisingDad isn't a hard-on in person? (g)

Isn't that the blessing of forums like this one. There is no ability to pre-judge people. You have to base your opinion entirely on what they write. For example I could be anything from 12 to 120, male or female, gay or straight, Christian, Muslem, anything.
I suppose that is also the curse.......

Plumper, it's only a curse if you pretend to be something you're not.
