It's not the same without Giu
I know it's a quiet time of the year but it seems to me it's just not the same without Giu. I mean where is the sick humor? Except for a rant once in a while by CD, when was the last time you saw a truly good "Bite Me"? Is it just me. I think we ought to all PM Giu and demand that he return. At the same time we could chip in and get the mods those new big red delete buttons. Then all would be good in the world. What do you think?

He was vacationing with family in Villamorra.
I think he's reading, but not writing. I really don't know if he'll be back but I really doubt it, he, and others, are kind of put off by some of the commercial aspects of the site (political correctness to drive user and post numbers up so they can charge more for ads etc..).
I see a dumb post, I think we should be free to call it a dumb post. Respect is a two way street - respect my time and effort to answer the silly question for the fifth time today someone asks the same question.
What's a red delete button cost? I've got a 'easy' button is it similar to that?

I think Chuckles has hit it on the head. Overly cautious moderation is just as bad as no moderation whatsoever.

You know what the first rule of sailing is? ...Love. You can learn all the math in the 'verse, but you take
a boat to the sea you don't love, she'll shake you off just as sure as the turning of the worlds. Love keeps
her going when she oughta fall down, tells you she's hurting 'fore she keens. Makes her a home.

The red button is cheap but I like the easy button concept. Is that the same as wait a minute?

Where is it written that we're not allowed to call a post dumb. Or worse.
You don't see SD holding back.
" IMHO, it is a really incredibly stupid idea."
Of course it is prefaced with humility.
While I do find the shortness of some posts to be abrasive at times, I think that anyone should be allowed to be as rude as they want to be. Just as anyone else should be allowed to point that rudeness out.
I am surely going to catch it for this but what the hell. At least I don't have to worry about neg reps anymore.
I like Alex and miss his presence here also. But frankly, I think he is pouting.
So what that he is "kind of put off by some of the commercial aspects of the site". Get over it already.
I am not sure what you mean by 'commercial aspects" but I don't see how it can be so unpleasant for him or others that they have decided to just go away and not associate with us anymore.
Alex is surely aware that he is admired and missed here.
It strikes me as a little selfish and immature that he can't just suck it up and go with the flow.
Who's he trying to punish?
Is it really that much different around here because of changes in the style of moderation? I just don't see it.
Okay, go ahead and open fire, I'm ready for it.

Evidently, I don't read the right posts, since I don't see any real change in the moderation. Of course, when I go on a thread, and don't care for the tone of conversation, I don't go back to it. An odd concept, I know, but I'm not a big cheese eater, so I don't have a lot of whine on hand
Since I have enough trouble, minding my own business, I find I rarely have the time, energy, or desire, to get upset about what other people post. I will point out inaccuracies or misstatements, but worrying about dumb posts is not on my agenda. I make enough of my own, to critique anyone else.
Having been on the site, long before most of you even knew about it, I've seen various "cycles" of posting and posters. There are people who use to contribute regularly, who no longer come here, for whatever their reason might be, and that is how it should be. The forum should be managed in a way that benefits the majority of the users, not any particular one or group.

Did I read the Portagee may be on another forum somewhere? I'd love to know where if he is. I'd check in there too.

Ok, I'll chime in.
I found Gui's contributions to be informative and entertaining. His videos have been great. For me watching how things are done is so much better than just reading about them. (A tip o' the hat to Knothead , too). I haven't quite figured out what pissed Gui off in the first place, but I have a full time job, so I don't read every post.
Like everything on this site, nay, the internet in general, you have to take everything with a grain of salt. And like everything on the internet, you can decide if you want to stay or go. I stay away from much of the off topic stuff because get pissed off at some of the stupid opinions some otherwise good sailors have, but feel obligated to vomit upon the rest of us.
But I keep coming back to SN because I get great information about stuff that I need to learn about (life is too short to make all the mistakes oneself) while I am entertained by the different personalities. Sarcasm, irony, and outright derision accepted as part of the deal. If you don't put the jalapenos in the salsa, all you have is tomato sauce.
Alex, and SD and Chuckles, and Knothead, and everyone else are the reason I keep coming back here. some for their knowledge, some because they are entertaining.
Come on back Alex, I found you to be both.
