Those of us in favor of self defense and the right to resist tyranny through force have made their case, now I pose a question to the opposition:
Why shouldn't I, as an individual and citizen of the United States, be allowed to defend myself from criminals and a tyrannical government? What is so scary to you about the idea of me protecting my family and myself?
An excellent truism: "When seconds count, the police are only minutes away". What do you think about this statement?
You say that an armed populous is ineffective against a superpower. Why then, is Iraq such a quagmire? Why did the Soviets encounter such problems in Afghanistan? It would be against the government's best interest to destroy the nation's infrastructure by "pushing the button", as you put it. I'm speaking here of the nuclear/chemical option.
And here's the question that gets to the core of the issue: Do you think the people exist to serve the government, or the government exists to serve the people? If you believe the former, then I fear no amount of rational discussion will persuade you, and I recommend moving to Europe, where you can enjoy a society more in
line with your own views.
