Funny how that works...

(I've been an NRA member for eight years -- and I'll probably never chose to own a fire arm.)

To those who are not comfortable with this ruling by the Supreme Court: how do you feel about the use of United States military in activities like regime change and foreign resource (e.g. oil) acquisition?

I'm sure this will appear tangential and unrelated but please bear with me.

I approve of the US military use in any situation sanctioned by the declaration of war by the US congress as provided by the Constitution. Executive actions without the declaration of war but WITH the complicitness of the congress need to be judged on a case by case basis.

Sorry if I've offended anyone. BTW, Firebase Garland is my web site. Geocities has seen fit to make it impossible for me to update or change it in any way. Go there at your own hazard, because that is my house, and I can say what I want to say.

Good one.

Debunking the guns and suicide myth

An interesting article on the matter.

LOL! "We can't trust ourselves, but we can trust you?"

Anti-gun advocates don't realize the irony and circular logic in some of their arguments. The above is a good example. To wit: If I can't trust myself, is it not reasonable to assume you can't trust yourself, either? And if you can't trust yourself, why should I trust you? And if I can't trust you, isn't it reasonable for me to take steps to defend myself from you, in case it should become necessary?

Jim

I think we're looking at this from the wrong angle...

Those of us in favor of self defense and the right to resist tyranny through force have made their case, now I pose a question to the opposition:

Why shouldn't I, as an individual and citizen of the United States, be allowed to defend myself from criminals and a tyrannical government? What is so scary to you about the idea of me protecting my family and myself?

An excellent truism: "When seconds count, the police are only minutes away". What do you think about this statement?

You say that an armed populous is ineffective against a superpower. Why then, is Iraq such a quagmire? Why did the Soviets encounter such problems in Afghanistan? It would be against the government's best interest to destroy the nation's infrastructure by "pushing the button", as you put it. I'm speaking here of the nuclear/chemical option.

And here's the question that gets to the core of the issue: Do you think the people exist to serve the government, or the government exists to serve the people? If you believe the former, then I fear no amount of rational discussion will persuade you, and I recommend moving to Europe, where you can enjoy a society more in line with your own views.

Well and succinctly said, Tortuga. Canada is closer than Europe though.

Yeah, but....

Canada is so pretty! I'd love to live there, if not for the socialist-trending society. Especially BC! Beatiful views, good skiing, friendly people

If only we could convince them to value the right of the individual over the right of the collective.....

Tortuga,
Unfortunately too many people here think we serve the government.
