You know what the first rule of sailing is? ...Love. You can learn all the math in the 'verse, but you take
a boat to the sea you don't love, she'll shake you off just as sure as the turning of the worlds. Love keeps
her going when she oughta fall down, tells you she's hurting 'fore she keens. Makes her a home.

Note that it also tosses out requirements to have trigger locks or the weapon disassembled within the home. I'd long thought that a trigger lock on your deer rifle might make sense but no sense on the .38 you'd use when confronting an intruder.

I did not find the dissents, focusing on the meaning of the word militia as well as the dissent saying that while you have a right, Congress can still regulate that right, to be compelling.

Before the cheering starts, it might be worth noting that licensing of firearms was affirmed and we've yet to see what the enlightened communities of Chicago, San Francisco, and Washington, DC do in terms of licensing. Here's to betting that they do not go quietly.
You guys remember my post with the Wolves, sheep and sheepdogs?

I might be wrong but it was my impression that this ruling dealt with DC which is in a different position vis a vis the Federal govt than states are because technically it is directly ruled by the Congress. I am not sure if this ruling extends to states or not - Maybe somebody else here knows more than I do.

On NPR today, they had a couple of police chiefs whining about all their efforts to bring sanity to the cities will be undermined by this ruling and that we'll have Rambos everywhere in the next ten years. Out here in the west, the street cops are big supporters of honest citizen's having the ability to defend themselves.

These 5/4 decisions really bug me though. These guys are supposed to be the experts on interpreting the law and four of them are consistently wrong, according to the other five.

The ruling protects all citizens in the country from having the federal government violate their right to bear arms. Then there's that equal protection claus and I think that's what citizens will use to challenge bans in other states and cities. It doesn't affect many of us in the western states, as many of our state constitutions flat out protects the right to bear arms and allow open carry in public as well as shall issue concealed carry.

The NRA, god bless 'em, are filing suits as fast as they can in communities affected. The ruling states, as posted above, that communities/states/etc.. cannot prohibit firearms ownership. Period.

Now maybe the ACLU will start taking on 2nd amendment cases as their excuse in the past was that it wasn't a right. I think they'll be big hypocrites though and continue to ignore this particular right.

I bet they put a law in place that says you can own a properly licensed, registered gun in DC, but you can not take it out of your home without previously obtaining a carry permit to a repair shop, shooting range or gun shop. That's about the strictest interpretation you can make on this, i.e., sure you can have it for home protection, and only for home protection.
I can live with that.
