Artful, it's a very special Canada Day in Newfoundland/Labrador because Dan Cleary has brought the Stanley Cup to Harbour Grace , NL for Canada Day. The first time in it's long history that it has made it to NFLD/Lab.

Happy Canada Day to our northern neighbors! Before seeing this thread, I had just told my kids that this fine blast of dry air we're enjoying was a gift from Canada in celebration of their independence!

Canada Day always reminds me of a cycling trip my late younger brother and I took across Nova Scotia now so many years ago. Along the way we passed through working fishing villages with names like "Lower East Pubnico" and "Gunning Cove", and camped at seaside parks like Kejimkujik National Park and Rissers Beach Provincial Park.

On one leg, somewhere along a remote expanse of highway was a little shaded pull off rest-stop, paved with pine needles and loose sand, no facilities, but complete with guest book inviting wayward visitors to sign. The day we happenned to pass by was July 1, Canada Day, so we waxed on for a bit in that guest book about the beauty of the land in which we travelled, as well as the generosity and hospitality of the Canadians we met along the way. Later that beautiful day we unsaddled and napped in the shade of a steepled church in a small town who's name I've since forgotten.

It is truly a wondrous land!

You know what the first rule of sailing is? ...Love. You can learn all the math in the 'verse, but you take
a boat to the sea you don't love, she'll shake you off just as sure as the turning of the worlds. Love keeps
her going when she oughta fall down, tells you she's hurting 'fore she keens. Makes her a home.
