We were heading down the lake that day and saw the black smoke filling the air. We listened to the calls to the Coast Guard, including one random person asking them to contact the Burlington Fire Department to coordinate response. Apparently the CG was doing one thing while the land based emergency response groups were doing another. It wasn't fun to see the smoke and know what was going on...

And don't use a cigarette lighter if you have a flare handy. White handheld flares give off a lot of light.
