Thumbs up James Patterson's - "Sail"

MY wife gave me James Patterson's new book, Sail, co authored by Howard Roughan. One of Patterson's previous books, Kiss the Girls, was a favorite of mine, so was the movie, but then that was more about Ashley Judd than the story line .

Anyone else read it yet? I was captivated for most of the book, it took a few unexpected & unnecessary twist, but overall found it a fun read.

duffer1960 is on a distinguished road
I am in the process of reading it (about half way through). So far it is ok. With a new chapter starting about every third page, there is a lot of empty space making the book look bigger than it actually is. What is driving me nuts is his name dropping; or should I say product name dropping: who cares what kind of hoity toity watch he's wearing, or the name of his $6,000.00 designer suit, he could just say it's expensive. It's almost like he's trying to show off how many expensive things he knows about.

Just my opinion.

Russ, I've heard that some of the authors drop names because it is--literally--a paid product placement. Same way that Fedex or Coke pays a movie studio to show their product on the screen. Can't say for sure--but I've heard top authors have been paid to drop names.

Patterson's popularity would make it a real possibility. I doubt that old Alastair MacLean got such benefits from his references to the Schmeisser submachine gun. (g)
