George Will offers a brief history of beer and how it saved the world

Interesting reading for beer drinkers and others.

This winter I read the Book "A History of the World in 6 Glasses" by Tom Standage. It chronicles history through the lens of six beverages - beer, wine, spirits, coffee, tea, cola - the power they have had on a wide range of human history. In the epilogue the book points out that we have come full circle because we now have the means of making and ensuring water is safe. Bottled water is one of the fastest growing industries. Pretty soon we won't have to drink beer.
