This place is WAY off my list of places to visit again

Well, pictures say more than words...

The picture is a good one, but unless you took it yourself I wouldn't vouch for it's veracity. The thin wisps of cloud are too dark, so a bit of retouching was done; but mainly the bottom of Cb clouds don't get that low - the bottom is still flat (no virga) which means it is still sucking energy and that requires more vertical separation. Unless photoshopped, I would guess that the cloud is several miles behind the island and actually has a base at 2-3K feet.

Nevertheless, I've jsut replaced my boring Windows-Desert background with this picture!

You mean Bimini isn't supposed to look like that all the time?

why i gave up photography

FX that used to take hours of skill in a dark-room are now done in seconds on a computer by 5 yo's.

I've spent over half my life examining cumulus and CuNimbus clouds from all angles with great interest - I have done a lot of cross country gliding and racing and the difference between a flat bottomed cumulus with a slight convex versus concave base and trailing wisps on the upwind or downwind side can mean making that 1000Km attempt or landing in a field. So of course my interest is piqued by this picture. Part of the shape looks like a wall cloud pushed outwards from a thunderstorm and it partially looks like a mountain rotor cloud. Both are nice formations - when viewed from the ground and at a distance.

Perhaps they are running like hell for the boat to escape the storm?

If the picture were true, it would give some meaning to "seek the high ground", wouldn't it?
