Russia Sweeps Toward Georgia Capital

Sure . . . . . . . the Russians say it's to support the "Break away" countries . . . and then they say it's to force a regime change in Tbilisi . . . what's next?

FOXNews.com - Russia Forces Move to Within 35 Miles of Tbilisi - International News | News of the World | Middle East News | Europe News

Watching the opening ceremonies for the Olympics I noticed Putin leaning over saying stuff to W. I wonder if he was saying "By the way . . . we're bombing the $#!% out of Georgia right now" and there's nothing you will . . . or can do about it.

I think any hopes Georgia had of joining NATO are gone now. They poked a giant sleeping bear . . . alone. All we’re going to do is scream a lot about it but not much more. It’ll be the same when China repossesses Taiwan. We’re close to being a neutered nation aren’t we?

Anyone that was suprised by that certainly has not been following the events over there. It is colonialism, not support for a breakaway colony. The fact that Georgia has a Pro-US leader has NOTHING to do with it... yeah, right.

Russia has been amassing troops there for a long time - looking for the first opportunity to launch an offensive. They have been flying their jets over Georgia testing their defenses and responses - LONG before this happened. I remember watching a program and reading an article on that many months ago.

Bob, I agree with you assessment that he probably told Bush, "... and there is nothing you can do about it..." Because there really isn't.

Good thing we got France and the United Nations on our side, huh (wink-nudge-wink)??? That oughta scare the crap out of him. We might even put together a committe to decide if we should put together a committe to decide if we should talk about it so we can put together a resolution that Russia and China can Veto and they can go ahead and do what they have been planning for a long time anyway.

A thought just crossed my mind on this:

Was the timing planned on this (during a US election year) intentionally? And is it possible, however unlikely it might at first seem, that there are two global rules of self-preserving conduct:

1) Don't pull on superman's cape when he's had a bad day, and

2) DOn't screw with an unpopular president that is only a few months from being out permanently and could give a crap about world opinion.

Thoughts??? What's he got to lose?

Bush will only do harm to another country if it is a paper tiger like Iraq. Russian falls into the same category as Korea and we all know how badass Bush was then.

Check out these pictures . . . powerful. I especially like the one where President Bush is giving Putin the skunk eye. His expression say's to me "I'll kick your little commie @$$"! . . . . . . . . even though we won't. I do like to see W get mad. He should have done it more over the last eight years. Even still, I'm a W fan.

Georgia 'overrun' by Russian troops as full-scale ground invasion begins | Mail Online

It appears the Russians may have lied. It appears they plan to take the entire region back in to their fold by force.

Well gee whizz by golly gosh ! A superpower in an immoral grab for power and influence told a porky ? Well I never.

At least the writer of that article had the decency to mention the OIL word. Guess what kiddies, it's got nothing to do with right and wrong !!! Well hush my mouth. Who'd of thunk it ?

Oh everyone will come up with platitudes of one sort or another but it all comes down to Empire in the end. Russia ain't gonna lose control of all that oil anymore than the US would let Russia have Texas. (or Alaska, now that was a particulaly dumb real estate deal eh Russkies ? )

Then again the shrub is such a good man eh ? Never a porky passed his lips.

"He stood on the deck and he said we'd accomplished our mission
He twisted the facts 'til he knew it would pass for the truth
Vengeance can fill any fool with conviction
But he can't wash the blood of the fallen from his cowboy boots"
Mark Erelli.

A pox on both their houses.

It always amazes me that we (the U.S) do stuff like this (Panama, Grenada, Iraq, Afgan etc.) on what is sometimes a lesser pretense - and yet the politicians wail like heck when someone else does it.
Somewhere out there is a large bucket of ego that makes most american's think we are always in the right.

Surprize, no one is right except the guy who is just trying to make a honest living without having a 105mm shell ruin his day.

when the Americans and their allies (for shame Australia) bomb the snot out of Iraq.....population centres......

It's bucked, totally bucking ridiculous and there will always be some wanker who will come out and say it was justified due to blah blah blah snot snot snot wank wank wank......

So the US is rushing to Georgia's aid ? Like they rushed to Afghanistan's aid when the USSR invaded ? Like the way Russians sped to...oh never mind.

There are times when nations go to war for the proper motives but i'm sorry, the sad reality is that most times they don't. They do it for power, to expand or create empire.

Russia is bombing the snot out Georgia cos Georgia has oil and the Russians want to get their greedy hands on it.

To suggest that it is in order to protect the good citizens of South Ossetia is rubbish.
