My brother in Tavernier said it's not even raining at the moment and he's getting ready to cook on the grill

Highest wind speed so far is 51 knots

Kinda reminds me of Charlie. I was there for that one - Cape Coral that is. I don't think it will get that strong though.

I hope it's not as bad as Eduardo that hit Texas coast a couple of weeks ago. Jeez the devastation.

Charlie though, became quite the hurricane when "he" came ashore at Port Charlotte. I think that storm caught alot of people flatfooted when it made a hard right and came ashore. CD, were you on das boat or ashore?

Sometimes its hard to make the right decisions, i.e., evacuate, hunker down and stay, etc. etc. because hurricanes can be so unpredictable.

For instance, I have friends who live on a boat in Marathon and when Hurricane Wilma was bearing down on the Keys, they did the smart thing, they evacuated. They secured their boat in a hurricane hole and checked into a hotel in Ft. Lauderdale. Of course, Wilma slammed Lauderdale pretty hard. At the height of the storm, my friends were evacuated out of the hotel because a construction crane collapsed on the building. David said that while he was trying to get to his car a portable construction "john" streaked overhead, about fifty foot off the ground and traveling so fast it was a blur. He said the experience was terrifying. When they finally returned to the Keys, they found their boat untouched, safe and sound, just as they had left it.

Another example; my brothers girlfriend lives in Key Largo and she evacuated the Keys because of Hurricane Andrew. All of the computer models predicted the storm's path to make landfall around Key Largo, so she drove to her Mother's home in Homestead. Unfortunately, Homestead, as it turned out, was ground zero. She and her Mom spent nine hours trapped, holding each other, scared to death under the remnants of the house. Luckily they were not hurt, but the storm literally flatten Homestead.

You just never know, Mother Nature can do the unexpected so often.

"You just never know, Mother Nature can do the unexpected so often."

I was watching cradle to grave coverage of the storm by the inventor of the internet himself.

Tipper was in the background pedaling her butt off on a stationary bike generator, providing juice for the lights and cameras, michelle was there, whining about how proud she was to be an american.
Barak showed up too, blaming Bush.

Al was pissin' an' moaning that if we just all used carbon credits, he could have flew in, but the planes been grounded, not enough people eating at mcdonalds anymore, can't get enough veggie oil for the houseboat either.

Then it dawned on me.

I read somewhere that these guys, the same ones that can't tell us within one day where the storm is gonna "hit"
are the same ones that tell us the polar ice caps are going to be gone in ten years if we don't start riding our bikes and wearing hemp drawers to work.

wheres my flashlight?

What not to do during Hurricane Fay (or any other hurricane/tropical storm):

A kite surfer was whisked up by a tropical storm and thrown head-first against a building, in amazing scenes caught by television news cameras.

"The wind was whipping around, picking him up and dragging him around," said Lois Bowman of the Fort Lauderdale fire service.
"Is there a lesson here? Whenever there's a storm warning, use common sense."

You know what the first rule of sailing is? ...Love. You can learn all the math in the 'verse, but you take
a boat to the sea you don't love, she'll shake you off just as sure as the turning of the worlds. Love keeps
her going when she oughta fall down, tells you she's hurting 'fore she keens. Makes her a home.
