To All My American Friends.

Yes it is today.

It was a nightmare
No tongue can tell
The streets of New York City
Looked just like the gates of Hell
In a flash
The smoke and the ash
Falling down like rain

But they circled wagons
They gathered round
As they bravely pulled our brothers
And our sisters from the ground
And I know
I owe them more
Than to be afraid

(Mark Erelli)

Whatever our politics today is a day to mourn those who died for no good reason. Bore me not with tales of justification for they fall on deaf ears.

I remember waking up in the middle of our night and walking into the living room. I'd got a glass of water and went to turn off the TV that the Ms W had left on when she came to bed. I though it was a second rate disaster movie.

Mainly Americans but there were also Australians, Britains and many other nationals involved as well. Not a good day for Homo Sapiens in general.

It was also a bad day for Chile a few years before, again for no good reason.

Such it is.

Couldn't agree more, certainly a day, as all others like it, above politics, above nation, and so wretchedly beneath simple humanity.

You know what the first rule of sailing is? ...Love. You can learn all the math in the 'verse, but you take
a boat to the sea you don't love, she'll shake you off just as sure as the turning of the worlds. Love keeps
her going when she oughta fall down, tells you she's hurting 'fore she keens. Makes her a home.

What a terrible tragedy.

Remember also the soldiers and innocents from all around the world that have died as a result. People who were going about their daily business, people trying to bring home money to raise their family. All these people that have died as a result of a political squabble.

Humanity (or our collect lack thereof) never fails to distress me at times.

It is also a dark day for Ireland today

Our national tall ship was lost at 0725 GTM today. Details are in the news feed forum.

Hear hear TDW, well said.
Must confess that although the Dec. 2006 tsunami in the Indian ocean probably cost 1000X more lives, I feel much more affected by the 9/11 attack having lost 2 friends that day.

We shall never forget...

The tsunami was as act of nature, 9/11 was done deliberately, that is the difference.

Thanks TDW and everyone else.
