Who the Hell is T. Boone Pickens?

Who is this guy and do his ideas have any merit?
Or is he just a crazy old rich guy trying to spend all his money on commercials before he kicks?

I personally believe that a lot of what he is saying is also about the transmission of the power. He who controls the transmission of the power, well they get very rich.

He made his money drilling for oil. Now he's looking at real alternatives and of course, to make more money.

Pickerns already has more money than he could ever spend. Being an oilman he would make money simply by default. He wouldn't need to run TV ads or promote some energy Independence plan to make money. I really think the guy has America's best interest at heart. What it may do is get Washington off it's collective butt and maybe the politicians will get to a starting place for real energy policy.

I'm sick of watching those political parties treating policy like a sporting match with winners and losers. With good ideas being dismissed because the other party came up with it. We The People are the eventual losers then. Pickens may just be the independent voice that is needed to begin a serious dialog. Anyway, one can hope.

That's what I was wondering.
The guy is apparently mega-rich already. So unless he's just loony, seems to me that he must at least believe that he has some good ideas.

He isnt loony. He really believes what he is saying. He has been a reliable supporter of conservative causes for a long time. His current ad campaign is what he really thinks about energy - which is something he actually has some experience in. Reasonable people can have different opinions but there is no particular merit to rich peoples' opinions except that they have a bigger advertising budget than you or I do.
