Sorry but "we" are responsible for high gas prices not an act of nature.

We terminated alternate energy research in the late 70's and 80's. We are afraid of nuclear energy, are slow (stagnant in fact) to adapt to solar and wind power where is is feasible to use and spend more energy to produce Bio fuels than we generate from them, we don't drill where we have resources and fail to use LNG/ CNG effectively....

Even us boaters... look at how few use solar or wind for electrical needs aboard... simple and not really very expensive over the life of the product and produces a massive Self-sufficiency for the boater.

Many areas could have homes supply much of the heating needs via simple solar heating but few do even in Florida and California and other areas where payback would be quick.

Nope it is not Ike that causes gas prices to be $5.00... it is us and a "wait for the government to do something" mentality. If we want better gas economy do something about it and voting is NOT the only or best way.

Gas here yesterday in my part of NJ, was $3.21 today it is $3.39. Unless these gas stations got gas deliveries, these guys are making a quick profit off the storm.

Well, it is more then 6$ per US Gal everywhere in Europe. In some countries as high as 9$.

Edit: You know we have to pay somehow to our "superior, free, ..." health care system.

Oh c'mon! A few years ago, oil was $105 a barrel and gas was less than $3 a gallon. Its a commodity people! And the price is only reflecting its manipulation.

That is nothing, I heard news of a "car" that already runs on AIR and moves over water.
It does not even use up that air to move, just changes it's direction and speed a little.
It uses viscosus and the natural movement of air for its complicated propulsion mechanism, mainly made of spars, cloth and lines.
We call it a sailboat.
