Possible? Shark Pups Spotted Outside Boston?

Today, I was just sailing outside of Boston between RW "B" (also known as BOS 0001), and RG "FR" (also known as MA0113). Off the starboard bow, I saw an odd sight in the water. As I approached, I realized it was a -huge- school of fish skimming just under the surface of the water. What I saw from afar were the ridges of their backs (more specifically, their fins!). I turned to port so I wouldn't run over them, but the school was enourmous, and as I leaned over the starboard side for a closer look, and I'm sure they were shark pups. They were about 2-3 feet.

Could this be?! I've lived and swam in southern mass and have never seen a shark. Are there other fish that could be mistaken for a shark? Have any of you seen something like this? It was so surreal -- how packed they were, and how up-close they were to the boat.

Sharks don't school like that do they ?

I remember coming across a massive school of fish as you describe but it turned out they were something like Mackeral. Big fish with fins like a shark but they were full grown at a couple of feet long.

Mackeral, they could be. I just browsed the web for photos of Mackeral and it's possible it was Mackeral that I saw. I hope so. Thank you!
