People believe movies to be true. And the crowd Mr. Stone attracts don't think they're watching a fantasy. And we can tell who the Democrats are as well, you know! (g)

"Perhaps we can think about what we elected, who we elected these last eight years," Stone said. "If they see the movie, they may think about who they voted for the last time and not forget it very conveniently. If they do that at least, that's pretty good. There's at least some thinking going on.

And luckily for Obama, he doesn't even have to count it as a campaign contribution.

Weekend Movie Roundup

by Jonathan Crow | October 17, 2008

This week's crop of new movie releases couldn't be more dissimilar. There's a biography of the sitting president, an adaptation of a hyper-violent videogame, a big-screen retelling of a bestselling book, and a foul-mouthed road movie.

W.

President George W. Bush has garnered genuine admiration in some and provoked furious screaming fits in others. Whatever your political stripe, you might be interested in Oliver Stone's surprisingly sympathetic portrait of our current president from his hard drinking days in Yale to the aftermath of the Iraq invasion. Critical reaction has been mostly positive. Roger Ebert of the Chicago Sun-Times raves, "Oliver Stone's 'W.,' a biography of President Bush, is fascinating. No other word for it." However, David Ansen of Newsweek wasn't a fan: "W. might have had some impact had it been made four years ago. But it's both too late and too early for a movie about our sitting president."

It put's Oliver Stone in the same category as M. Moore - I'd feel that way even if it about Spilly Billy and the dress from hell.

I heard an interview on the radio yesterday morning with the actor who plays Bush Sr. I wish I could remember his name. Anyway, he said he was looking forward to January when bush is out of office, so he could be arrested and tried for treason. No doubt W. is an unbiased and accurate biography, made by unbiased people, to be released just before the election.

I am biased in that I have my own opinions and I will not be going to see the W. movie at any movie theater. I think that it is bad enough that we have had to live through 8 years of kindergarten finance and gym class foreign policy that I can hardly find any of this funny. Trickle down economics is a Chinese water torture, much like water boarding.
Sorry to disagree with so many posters but that is just the American that I am and you are lucky to count me as one of you still.
I will catch it when it hits cable though so thanks Freesail99.
(Send more Navy boats to the Somalia coast please, someone! That, or train the kroozers and merchant marine folks to use their own RPG launchers. Ya' gotta' see this if you haven't already: 2008 Nightmare - MV Faina - Pirate Attack of The Century )
Please read it all as I expect the Russkies to use the same knockout gas they used in Moscow on their own people to knock out the pirates and their own people before they commit their own 'Green Berets', 'Navy Seals' or whatever they call them in these post-Glasnost times.

Yahoo surveyed 13 critics and found that their average rating was B-. The only A rating was Roger Ebert's.

2278 Yahoo users rated it a C.

It doesn't sound like Oscar or Golden Globe material.
