Sailors, speedboaters, and drivers

I go to three different forums, one for each group above, and it is a fact that most of the people on those sites who post on politics are conservatives. Lesson I derive: people who work hard for their money, and have some private property, but who are not wealthy, will not vote for Obama. They are the people that Obama and his cohorts in Congress will be taxing to buy votes for themselves from their underemployed, underachieving constituents. In other words, if you earn, you vote conservative; if you want, you vote liberal.

You just summed up the whole Democrats VS Republicans Thread in one simple paragraph.

Can't argue with fact.

Well said!

drynoc,
I'd warrant that there is something more than just their hard work, and the money they've made, at work there as well.

All of those activities involve a high degree of autonomy and bring out the individualism in the American character. One of the sports is archaic, the other almost wholly unnecessary, and the last can be accomplished by less driven people in a Yugo. Participants in all three relish a challenge.

That they are successful might go without saying, perhaps. That they are a target of Obama and likely know it cannot be said enough.

The problem is that it does not work.
It has been tried here in the UK (1978)... 83% income tax, 98% investment tax.
The money simply runs out, or flies abroad, or there is so much borrowing going on that the currency sinks.

Horrible borrowing is about to strangle both of our economies, and all that is planned is more of the same. I get so bloody sick of it.

We must live within our means. There can only be one consequence if this goes on.

In the UK, a debt figure quoted yesterday was £76,000 per household, and rising this year alone by another £7000 per household.
In this household, it's zero.
Maybe I am doing something wrong?
Maybe that's why I can afford to keep a boat?
Maybe I should be taxed on the boat?
Maybe I should not have a boat and all those making boats can all go sign on welfare?

Maybe we should all live beyond our means and all stand with our hands out, boat or no boat?

Simplistic

What I wrote was somewhat simplistic, obviously, but I believe it is a good general rule that if you want to achieve on your own, you vote conservative, and if you want to be provided for, you vote liberal. The Democratic party's entire agenda is giving stuff to people and to business that they did not earn. Sadly, the Republicans have not been a whole lot better about this lately, which is why they are about to be out of power. If you're going to get more government, why not just elect the Democrats to give it to you? It's their specialty.

Rockter: don't give them any ideas. They're grasping now. I see that the politicians are trying to tax the endowments that universities have been able to build up over the years to cover their expenses. I'm not a great fan of the university system, but it is proof positive of the acquisitiveness of the average politician.

This is also proof of the fact that Democrats really have no use for the Constitution, other than a couple of items in the Bill of Rights. When have you ever heard a Democrat say, "The government is not authorized to do that by the Constitution"?
