Why I'll vote for John McCain

As long time readers will have noted, I am a less than enthusiastic supporter of John McCain. I have listed the reasons that I preferred him over either Obama or Clinton along with the things I dislike about him. I debated either not voting or just "wasting" my vote on the Libertarian party candidate, Bob Barr. I've now decided to vote for McCain and Quinn Hillyer of The American Spectator has made my case far more eloquently than I can so I'll post his column here.

The American Spectator : McCain's Best Argument

I'd encourage all readers to consider the points made as well as the times we live in. Economic troubles come and go while the continuance of western culture, and even the West itself, is not a given. And America is still the West's last best hope. Thank you for your consideration.

Considering both canidates: I found that one is worth my respect and the other is naught more than a socialist used car salesman.

That was very well written and expresses my feelings completely. Thanks for the link, I've sent it to all the Obama supporters I know.

Here's another damn good reason, or thought process, that would lead me to vote for McCain. From the pages of NRO.

A Reason to Elect McCain [Jay Nordlinger]

There are a lot of people who didn’t like Edmund Morris’s biography of Reagan, which was authorized — they said it was a failure, or at least a missed opportunity. I don’t know. I didn’t read it. But I do know this: Morris had one insight into Reagan, and it was perfectly observed.

Reagan spent his entire life standing up to the bully. From boyhood on, he interposed himself between the bully and the innocent. He stood up to the bullies in his schools. He stood up to the Communists in Hollywood, and to the coercive unions. He stood up to the student radicals and their abettors. He stood up to the Soviets.

He simply stood up.

In the world today are a lot of bullies to stand up to: al-Qaeda, the mullahs, the North Koreans, the Chinese Communists, the Castro brothers, Chávez. John McCain will almost certainly do it. Barack Obama will almost certainly not.

That’s one reason — probably the biggest reason — I’m voting for McCain on Tuesday.

I am not going to try to convince you that Obama is the guy for you. But to think he is a wuss is silly - You dont get to the top of the heap in Chicago politics unless you are willing and able to stick a knife in the back of your enemies whenever necessary. Say what you want but Obama is no wimp when it comes to bare knuckles politics. That he sweet talks people while he does it makes it all the more surprising to the victims when it happens. But make no mistake - his past is littered with political victims - Hillary is the most recent and her machine was no pushover either. McCain will be next. They all have one thing in common - they underestimated him.

Yeah, that's who I want hire into the oval office, a known backstabber, someone who thinks it's all in a days work.

You should think about what you just wrote, how highly will he consider your back once he's got what he wants.

Unf'n believable

Just like your kids, there comes a time when you just can't keep them out of trouble, you just got let them go and face the effects of their choices.

I think I'm there again,

OK, I have agree with you sway-. I'm not a big McCain fan, but I do respect him and will vote for him. It is a shame however, he isn't even following thru on campaign promises right now.

McCain is running on the idea that he will boycott ALL pork-barrel spending, that he will make sure you "know their names". He will "make them famous". Yet how much pork got attached to the economic bail-out package, that he signed? I've yet to hear him throw anyone under the bus on that one. If McCain had put some action to his words I think he would be doing much better in the polls right now.

I'm not McCain bashing, just pointing out a very big missed oportunity in his campaign. Don't even get me started on Jobama.

It looks like Uncle Sam is going to have a big experiment with socialism.
The powerhouse of that huge economy is going to shift to redistributive mode.
It has been tried here in the UK, with 83% income tax and 98% investment taxes.

We were all so equal that we either stayed at home, or left. The money tried to leave too, so they changed the law to stop it.

It was so wonderful, it led to the worst industrial strife this country has ever seen... 1978-79.

It's your own affair there Americans, but is there one single ounce of sincerity in that Obama guy? Very slick, yes, but trust?????

There's a really big difference in sticking a political enemy in the back and kissing up to people like Iran's I'manutjob.

You stand up to bullies and hit them back when they slug you. You don't rip apart people for political purposes and get away with it, ever. It will bite him in the ass eventually.

And so will Russia, China, Iran, North Korea, Cuba and Venezuela.. as soon as the opportunity arises.
