Former Obama speech writer to Vote for McCain.

This has to hurt. The disillusionment of people with Obama has begun, though he has not even been elected yet. Conservatives may be forgiven for wondering what Ms Button was thinking in the first place while remembering that we were all young and idealistic once as well. What makes Ms Button's statement so powerful is that she does not condemn the Dems or Obama on Republican, or even conservative, grounds but on their own espoused principles. She is too polite to say what they really are; hypocrites.

Racist allegiance (Powell) vs thoughtful decision making (Button), yes SCK, you win what you deserve.

I said it, I stand by it.

What really has to hurt is the Ancharage, AK newspaper endorsing Obama in part BECAUSE of Palin.

I'm sorry, but does this Ms. Button really exist? Read the comments on that blog and people can find no mention of her in the campaigns. What we have is this blog being reported as news. Maybe it is, maybe it isn't. And if she is disillusioned by how the Dems treat women, what can she expect from McCain, who is against equal pay for equal work as just one example of what he thinks about women. Yes, Hillary was attacked, but she expected it and I think acquitted herself well in her campaign. I just happen not to like her or her husband very much. And Palin is now seen as an anchor to McCain's chances because she is such a lightweight, and serves as yet another example of McCain's poor judgement.

Paul, Paul, Paul.... Don't you know how this works? You don't question the socialist answer, just find out if he has a plumbers license or a traffic ticket. Never mind that if Palin had been seen in the clothing she normally wears the MSM would have called her trailer trash, lets focus on how much money the RNC spent on her clothes. Don't pay attention to the fresh $100 acrylic nail job on the woman telling Obama that she has to worry about whether to buy milk in 1/2 gallons or a full gallon. I could go on all night.

Remember, you can say anything you want, just as long as you don't question the Messiah.

I suppose we could engage in a conversation on why the MSM has ignored the story. Mitch's questions might be answered more easily by a simple google search of her name. Fox News, with all that implies, did report it on special Report with Brit Hume.

sck5 misses the subtle difference between a Button and a Powell. Were I striving to make his non-point I'd have mentioned former MA governor William Weld or the late WFB, jr's son Chris Buckley my own self.

Powell was in all cases a civil servant of Republican administrations. to the extent that he has made his views known, he has always been a liberal Republican. He has never served in a political office or what might be regarded as a political appointment. His one sojourn into an area that might be regarded as even remotely political was as Secretary of State which was a rather abject failure necessitating his departure.

Ms Button, on the other hand, apparently sought her highest aspirations as a speech writer for more than one Democrat presidential candidate. It certainly appears that, at one point, she was a true believer in the Democrat message. And her career was in furthering those beliefs. Another Democrat, like Ronald Reagan, who felt that they had not changed but that the party had changed. I expect you'll be seeing a raft of that under an Obama presidency. Heck, Bill "the era of big government is over" Clinton is going to seem right-center in the Obama era.

The Anchorage Daily Democra..... err, News. A Mclathey paper, that was going out of business in the '70's, until the Anchorage Times (the evening paper and more GOP leaning) allowed the News to use their printing facilities. With the rise of morning papers over afternoon/evening one's, the News got back on it's feet and was able to grow and using predetory ad pricing, eventually buried the Times (a fate of most afternoon papers).

The Daily News is, and always has been, Dem leaning, endorsing Kerry in the last election, and Knowles over Palin for governor. Big surprise they endorsed Obama.
