The Real Losers Today
I don't think anyone that understands the meaning of objective, can ever believe the media can lay claim to be that again. I don't mean the op/ed pages, but the supposed "news" part of newspaper.
From the feeding frenzy over Palin's and Joe the Plumber's backgrounds, to the total lack of interest in anything to do with Obama's, the bias was plain for all to see.
Don't get me wrong though, I'm not complaining about the bias. I'm only stating that the media can no longer claim it doesn't exist anymore.
While it, arguably, had an influence, it's not an unexpected one. What it does do though, is politicize those who are suppose to be, by their own words, the watchdogs. And destroys, any semblance of credibility they may have had. And that, is a loss for the American people. Not just of the RIght or Left, but everybody.
However things turn out, for their sake, I hope it was worth it. For they have given up something precious.

nobody seems to care. it will get worse with the enactment of the "fairness doctrine". the left has total control of the major media and this will give them a muzzle over those that do not agree with them. just look at the way obama treated tv stations that dared pose tough questions

Mark Twain (Samuel Clemens) said:
If you don't read the newspapers, you are uninformed; If you do read the newspapers, you are misinformed.
The 4th Estate has abdicated it's responsibility. I remember being in SE asia a couple of years ago, soon after 9/11. The only televisions in the village were at a pub in town. They would show BBC on one, Duetschworld(sp) on another and CNN on the third. CNN looked cartoonish next to the British and German news channels. I was disgusted and embarassed.

Sorry John, but I don't agree: The false assumption here is that the media was ever unbiased.

It was great to listen to NPR predicting a landslide victory for Obama at 6:30 yesterday (Eastern Time) - before ANY of the polls had closed. They were talking about how they couldn't find McCain supporters anywhere but Obama supporters were "bringing voters in by the truckload", and "Standing outside the polling places offering to teach people how to vote." Then they flipped to a reporter at Ohio McCain HQ and said "It looks like there's supposed to be a party going on here - there are balloons and food, but no people. Maybe they already realized that Obama is going to win." I wonder how many people went home last night and had similar comments to the ones from my wife - "I didn't think we were going to bother to go out to vote since I've heard the election is pretty much decided already." We went out to vote regardless, because that is our right and why we live here.
The press decides the outcome of the election these days. Regardless, I think it was said best that "We'll fight tooth and nail to have our candidate win, but once the election is decided we're still all Americans."
BTW - this election was particularly hard for me. I agree with most of the Democratic platforms around environment, abortion, etc., but being a business owner I HAVE TO vote Republican due to their fiscal platform. My issues are not with the candidates, but with the fact that we have a two party system.

Democratic platforms around 'environment'?
There are few environmental issues that actually exist, except in the minds of some of the dumb asses who aren't really aware of science - and those of us who grew up as CONSERVATIONISTS were doing just fine with out people like the Earth Liberation Front and Greenpeace.
/sigh

I'll bet you a reasonable amount of money that such will never happen. With all due respect, I believe that you fundamentally misunderstand the American political process. We have two parties because there are irreconcilable differences between their respective members. And it is in the public arena that those differences are hammered out and decisions are made by the people. The middle ground gets you half-baked solutions that please no one and, worse, solve nothing. Compromise is vastly over-rated. A brief example might be our experiment with LBJ's Great Society. We ran a twenty year test drive on it and rejected the majority of it in the end. LBJ hardly compromised in it's implementation of it though...and we hardly compromised on our later rejection of most of it.
