For our Veterans

On Veteran’s Day we honor
Soldiers who protect our nation.
For their service as our warriors,
They deserve our admiration.

Some of them were drafted;
Some were volunteers;
For some it was just yesterday;
For some it’s been many years;

In the jungle or the desert,
On land or on the sea,
They did whatever was assigned
To produce a victory.

Some came back; some didn’t.
They defended us everywhere.
Some saw combat; some rode a desk;
All of them did their share.

No matter what the duty,
For low pay and little glory,
These soldiers gave up normal lives,
For duties mundane and gory.

Let every veteran be honored;
Don’t let politics get in the way.
Without them, freedom would have died;
What they did, we can’t repay.

We owe so much to them,
Who kept us safe from terror,
So when we see a uniform,
Let’s say "thank you" to every wearer.

lynn1120 is on a distinguished road
Yes a solemn day

It is interesting, here in the middle of Canada, Remembrance Day is a really big deal-- commemorative celebrations start about two weeks before the 11th and culminate on the 11th --it is amazing how big and small cities, towns and hamlets each have several diferent activities to honor all vets-- I think it was because in the two world wars the population was a lot smaller and the proportion of men who served was mich higher--so the local impact was immense...

will be having several moments of silence and raising a glass of the good stuff
to salute those who have gone before

Did anyone get a chance to read about this project :

Thanks Bubb2. All too often people forget exactly why we have holidays like Veterans day and Memorial day.

We just had our ceremony here in town. It is nice to see our soldiers remembered and I always also take a moment to remember our merchant mariners who also put themselves in harms way for us.
To all who serve and have served...my thanks and respect.
