Presidential cabinet nominations
I predict that, of the presidential appointees we know of, the one for Attorney General will not go as well as might be expected by the President-elect. Recycling the Clinton administration has it's limits. Mr. Holder is entitled to his Senate confirmation hearing and it's perfectly within that body's purview to ask just what went on in the final days of the Clinton administration, specifically the pardoning of Marc Rich, the fugitive felon.
That the NYT elects to run the below editorial does not bode well for Mr. Holder and, frankly, refreshens the odor that emanated from the Reno Justice Department. Some aspects of history are best left lay where they fell while others, such as the selling of pardons, can benefit from a healthy dose of sanitizing sunlight.

Sway-
Isn't that what "W" did, he took in most of his father's cronies...and they nurse-maided him through two terms... with Cheney's hand firmly planted up "W"'s backside...

You know what the first rule of sailing is? ...Love. You can learn all the math in the 'verse, but you take
a boat to the sea you don't love, she'll shake you off just as sure as the turning of the worlds. Love keeps
her going when she oughta fall down, tells you she's hurting 'fore she keens. Makes her a home.

Personally, I think it was a crime to pardon Rich... and that Holder has no business being attorney general given his poor decision to assist mr. rich in getting pardoned previously... As I've said before, I'm not a Democrat...more of an anarchist... with socially liberal, fiscally conservative leanings.

Sway I will bet you a dollar that if Holder gets nominated then he will get confirmed. At the end of the day it wasnt Holder who granted the pardon, but Clinton. And he isnt up for appointment. Holder cant help but do better than Alberto Gonzalez who "couldnt remember" his own name or so it seemed.

Holder's explanation/excuse: "I never devoted a great deal of time to this matter." He now says he wishes that the Justice Department had been "more fully informed" about the case. This is a man that was instrumental in the pardoning of a fugitive federal felon. This is the person Obama would have as the top law enforcement officer of the country?
So much for "change we can believe in" and "change we need." As jaded as I am, even I find this mildly surprising--and mildly disappointing .
Obama also touted bi-partisanship. Other than a meeting with The Maverick, Sen. McCain, where's the bi-partisanship? Near as I can tell, everything he and the Democratic party is doing is all in the mold of the same old left-"liberal" Democratic party--right down to declaring their own persona non grata if they're not sufficiently "liberal."
Btw: Waxman is exceedingly anti-gun. And now he's in charge of the Commerce Committee. Add 'em up and weep.

'do as I say, not as I do'. The requirement is for the repubs to be bi-partisan while the dems have not been and will not be

Nolan Finley said it well in today's Detroit News Opinion section:
Quote:
As they await his ascension, Republicans are reassuring themselves that President-elect Barack Obama, worried about winning re-election in four years, will shake off a lifetime of liberal allegiance and govern the nation from the middle.
They're delusional. Little that Obama has said or done since Election Day supports that theory. Rather, there's every indication that Obama will enthusiastically lead the liberals who now firmly control Washington in enacting a far-left agenda.
|
(Full text at Liberals ready to take over Washington)
It looks to be going as I feared it would: A "liberal" Democrat President with Democrat majorities in both houses and they plan to go to town.
"Change I can depend on," out of "liberal" Democrats: Yes, unfortunately. But the "change we need?" I think not. It's just the same old, tired, worn out changing of the guard.
How uttterly, utterly disappointing . Disappointing even on my part, and I never believed it in the first place.
