Thumbs down Whale Wars

I just finished watching another episode of Whale Wars and while I support the idea that Japanese whaling as "research" is a sham and the harvesting of the whales is unnecessary and would cause no inconvenience to the Japanese if stopped, I am amazed by the utter lack of discipline and seamanship of the members of the Sea Shepherds. The disregard for communications protocol, the lack of training in the launching of their inflatables, totally overshadows the intent of their mission. They'd do themselves and their cause a favor by not parading their idiocy on TV.

One other item with the show that amazes me is their portrayal of the Southern Ocean off of Antartica as this benign playground rather than the deadly cold ocean that it is.

Holy crap i just watched the saame episodes and completely agree with you. These guys are idiots thank you so much for posting this. The first episode they flip the zodiac trying to launch it. They are so stupid and deserve getting all the bull they do, in the preview for next week the captain gets shot, he deserves it that idiot. If he would die for whales then he wouldnt be yelling at his crappy crew and actually do something other than read poetry. So in the end I agree fellow lon-guy-lander

Paul Watson has and always will be a loose cannon, that's why greenpeace got as far from him as possible, and when Greenpeace doesn't approve your tactics, you know the guy is in left field.

Last I heard, if he is every caught in Coata Rica, he will most likely spend the rest of his life in their custody, for attempted murder on a fisherman

I give Greenpeace my support, though I wish they had a bit of Watson's balls still. He's just such a shamefully poor manager and captain. Hope none of the idealistic airheads he has for crew get seriously hurt.
Wuffles, couldn't stand to watch it all so I was flipping over to the Farm Aid concert on RAVE HD. Willie, Neil and Dave Matthews (sorry, not Mellencamp) were tops.

I can't support any of these groups, I know their backgrounds, their tactics, the players and cross associations.

It's not pretty

I agree poopdeck, but it is fun to watch. How do you put two guys on the deck of a ship and claim they are hostages?

Hah! I sat there watching that show with the same thoughts, Mazzy! On one of last night's episodes, a woman gets hurt and they made it look like it was the first time the new medical officer had even looked in the supply cabinet to see what's in there. Then they show the guy grinning maniacally with a needle in hand.

On many occasions, the captain and long-time crew are shown getting mad at the poor performance of the crew. They're rookies with not just no training, but in some cases zero experience on a boat. EVER. There's a complete lack of leadership on the captain's part and it's obvious that he feels the crews are just meat, easily expended and easily replaced.

Screw the whales, I think we should save the poor naive hippies on that boat from their irresponsible captain.

And your mention of the benign Southern Ocean is right on. Looked pretty placid to me as I watched that show! Those guys from Deadliest Catch ought to consider fishing down in Antarctica.

I have to agree with Poopdeckpappy. I don't support them in any way.

if you have any links to what you know, I'd appreciate them here.

This show illustrates what the enviro movement looks like up close. Maniacal, fanatical leadership at he top and a bunch of lemmings following blindly. To paraphrase a popular phrase of the 60's; my ideology, right or wrong.
