My dear, dear Aunt Ema died today (damn it)..I grew up with her, and she was like a mother to me, especially in my teen years...she loved me and my brothers and sons, like a mother would to her children..she allways kept me out of trouble...God i can't believe it.
She was never married and lived in my Grandmother's house, where i grew up (my mom was my grandmothers neighbour)..after my grandmother passed away, she bought a house and went to live near her sisters, my mother and my other aunt..
We all live near each other in Portugal, so she was a mere half hour from us...
Everyone in the family loved her...and we used to get together every year, rain or sun, for Christmas and other family meetingsr..sometimes, she would come by and stay with us..
When I was a teen I used to take her sailing, in my fast wet boats..she loved it..
Later on in 2002 I took her sailing in a dog's day, and while she was of short stature and had a hip replacement, she grabbed the winch and enjoyed the ride like a true old salt..
lately she was having trouble with a hip, and had several hip surgeries..we never heard her say a word of pain...
I really really loved her..I write this with tears and hanger..
She was killed today, victim of medical negligence at a hospital where ignoring her Diabetes, she was given a lethal dosis of a medication.
Descansa em paz, minha querida tia Ema. Teu sobrinho Xanito.
