For a Cold-Warrior, The Wheel Turns

Hello everyone.

I don't generally indulge myself by boring my online friends with a great deal of my personal family drama; but recent events that are life-changing make me think a little differently, in this case.

This has been a tumultuous week for me and my family. On Monday, my stepdaughter gave birth to our third grandchild; Cecelia Noelle, a healthy 6 1/2 pounds of syrupy cuteness!

Mother and Baby made it home before the holiday and are doing great.

Then, as the circle of life rolls on without stop; my dad Byron passed on this morning.

My dad had been suffering from Parkinson's for several years; complicated by Lewy Body Disease, a degenerative form of dementia. We'd been expecting him to pass for a week or two; but hero that he was, he held out until Christmas has passed.

Our family is comforted in knowing that he has moved on to an easier existence.

blt2ski will become famous soon enough
While the father may not seem like he knew what was going on, he may very well have been waiting for christmas, and the birth of the "great Grand baby".

Not sure how to explain things like that, but it seems to happen. My now ex wifes grandmother died ~ 3 days after our wedding. He mom went back to visit a day or two after, on the way home from the airport with some pictures in hand, she went that fast with a smile on her face.

Condolences, along with joys!

Ajari,

Joy and grief are our frequent companions throughout the course of life. Thankfully, joy visits more often and happily lingers longer, like the welcome guest that arrives to see us through difficult times.

Even as you grieve the loss of your father, perhaps you will be comforted by the enduring joy that has arrived with the birth of your new granddaughter. Your family will certainly be in our thoughts this season.

Thank you everyone for your thoughts and wishes.

Indeed, life is a great cycle; and having these two events so close in proximity to each other is a grand reminder that while our time here is fleeting, life continues.

Sometime in the last year there was a new member who was thinking about taking his dad and going on a year long sailing adventure. He asked if he was crazy, etc. etc.

I have to say, as I did then, that his instinct was dead-on. Time is absolutely the one resource that is limited.

Take the time. Take the time. Take the time.

My dad worked his @$$ off for years and years, expecting to have his "retirement" to relax and enjoy himself. Now, at 70; he is gone. (really, he's been gone for several years )

Take his tale to heart as an inspiration; time cannot be banked like an investment. It can only be spent. It is our choice to spend it wisely or foolishly; and only we and our loved ones can define what that means.

Namaste

Alar,

My condolences on your loss, and congratulation for another grandchild. Life is strange sometimes.

Condolences on your father's passing and congratulations on your new granddaughter. However, I'd point out that she looks a bit young to be a mother:

I'm going to guess that this is your second or first grandchild instead of the mother...

You know what the first rule of sailing is? ...Love. You can learn all the math in the 'verse, but you take
a boat to the sea you don't love, she'll shake you off just as sure as the turning of the worlds. Love keeps
her going when she oughta fall down, tells you she's hurting 'fore she keens. Makes her a home.
