Angry A not so nice find at the yard.

I went to check the boat after our long cold spell and found the cabin sole awash by a couple of inches of water. Considering the bilges are up to two feet deep, that's not a good thing. On lifting the boards, I find about 18" of ice in the bilges. Apparently, a yard neighbor unplugged me and plugged is in. So, between the rain (heavy) and something bursting in the fresh water system, I have maybe 150 gallons of ice in the bilges. I didn't see any swelling of the hull anywhere so with luck, I only have to worry about the water lines. The tanks are monel, which would stretch so with luck, they're still ok. I dumped about 40# of salt in the bilges to melt the ice and prevent rot. I reckon we'll see.

Hopefully the tanks themselves did not freeze and burst! Then again, depending upon where the water lines run and the tanks are mounted, the tanks could be easier to replace/fix than a line!

Not fun. One would like to shoot neighbors for doing that!

In the mean time, hope nothing major is wrong!

I can't really tell yet but the tanks cross over with a tee and valve in the bilge and are fairly easy to get to. The hull is probably 3-4" thick at that point between the wood and glass and didn't appear to deform any. I'm thinking the ice expanded upwards as it formed. I probably got lucky there.

What a sad story!! I am amazed you were able to restrain yourself in regards to the neighbor who unplugged you.

I hope it works out okay for you.

That is freakin' wrong! It's a good thing you checked it.

Shall we all come have a "word" with your neighbor?

Why would someone do that?

There was more boats than plugs available in that section I guess. You'd think the yard would at LEAST check to see you were plugged in if charging you for electricity.

Because some people are jerks. I've had that kind of stuff done to me, too. Luckily, I haven't suffered any damage. Luckily for them, I'm a nice guy and THEY haven't suffered damage.
