Various Uses for WD-40

These are a few of the uses the you can get from WD-40.

A lady got up very early one morning and went outside to pickup the Sunday paper, she noticed someone had sprayed red paint all around the sides of the neighbors brand new beige truck. She went over and woke him up and gave him the bad news. He was, of course extremely upset.

And they stood there trying to figure out what could be done about the problem. They decided there wasn't much recourse but to wait until Monday, since nothing was open. Just then another neighbor came out of his house, surveyed the situation and immediately went to get his WD-40 out and cleaned the red paint off with it. Guess What! It cleaned up that paint without harming the original paint on the truck! I'm impressed!!

Water Displacement #40. The product began from a search for A rust preventative solvent and de greaser to protect Missile parts. WD-40 was created in 1953 by three Technicians at the San Diego Rocket Chemical Company. Its name comes from the project that was to find a 'water displacement' compound. They were successful with the fortieth formulation, thus WD-40. The Corvair Company bought it in bulk to protect their atlas missile parts.

Ken East (one of the original founders) says there is nothing in WD-40 that would hurt you...' IT IS MADE FROM FISH OIL' . When you read the 'shower door' part, try it. It's the first thing that has ever cleaned that spotty shower door. If yours is plastic, it works just as well as glass. It is a miracle! Then try it on your stovetop... It is now shinier than it has ever been before.

It is no coincidence that those two are listed back to back.

One of my families favorite stories.

Years ago, as a teen, I stopped over to visit my Grandmother who at the time was living in a senior citizen apartment complex. I knocked and Grandma yelled to come in and that was not like her not to answer the door. There she was sitting in her easy chair rubbing her knees. I asked her if anything was wrong and she says her knees are hurting her as she just walked to the grocery store and back.

I said, Grandma you need to get you some WD-40. She asks WD-40? I said yes, it comes in a spray can and you spray on your knees and rub it in. It will lubricate those knees and make them better. (I am thinking she understands I am joking)

Days go by and I get home from school. Dad was home and says "did you tell your Grandmother to put WD=40 on her knees. I said yes, but I thought she knew I was joking. Dad says he stopped in to check on her and he could smell it the apartment. Dad asks her about it and she tells him I told her it would help. Dad then tells Grandma that I had to be joking and don't use it anymore. Grandma then says "Don't tell Mrs. Ferris next door as she using on her neck and she says it working."

Fish oil? And here I thought it was mainly kerosene. Although, "lamp oil" did come from whales and such before dino-oil was pumped out of the ground.

WD-40 is handy stuff, but there are better lubricants, better moisture displacers, better cleaning solvents. I got a bum can of it (the pressure went flat, couldn't sray it out) and while they said they'd send me a new can...it must be three-five years now, and that new can still hasn't shown up.

Unlike the folks at Rust-o-leum, who said "well, primer WILL harden in the can, it has a shelf life" but sent me a SIX PACK of new primer cans as an apology!

Mixed with grease, it makes for a great mooring wire and cargo gear slush on board ship.

I had a motorcycle engine one time and it would not start.
I sprayed a big squirt of WD40 onto the motor.
I stood back 3 ft and waited.
It didn't start.

Somethings it won't do.
