Recalls in the boating groups found on the net

Here are some recalls that may concern us on the boating scene. So please check them out and be safe.

Bombadier Recreational Products Sea-Doo 2004 - 2008 Watercraft (Wed, 26 Nov 2008 00:00:00 GMT) Certain model year 2004-06 Speedster 200 and Speedster 200 Wake and certain model year 2007-08 200 Speedster and 200 Speedster Wake that are equipped with wakeboard towers may experience cracks or weld breaks in welded joints that could allow the tower to disengage from the upper rear leg attachment points in rough water, causing the tower to fall onto the boat.

Volvo Penta 3.0GLP-J, 4.3GL-J, 4.3GL-JF Engines (Tue, 25 Nov 2008 00:00:00 GMT) Volvo Penta recently discovered that certain engine models 3.0GLP-J; 4.3GL-J; and 4.3GL-JF gasoline sterndrive engines, within the serial number range: 4012250992 through 4012255637 may contain carburetors which have float bowl retaining screws that were not properly torqued during carburetor assembly. Fuel may leak from these screws when the engine is operated.

Meridian Yachts 341NSB, 411SB, 441SB 2008 - 2009 Boats (Mon, 17 Nov 2008 00:00:00 GMT) Some 2008-2009 Meridian 341NSB, 411SB, and 441SB boats are missing a cover on the Shorepower connection breaker that could result in electrical shock.

Mercury Marine Verado L4, L6 Boats (Tue, 21 Oct 2008 00:00:00 GMT) Some multi-engine boat packages powered by Verado four or six cylinder outboards may experience a short in the power steering /automatic power switch. If a short occurs there is a risk of fire.

Mercury Marine Optimax, EFI Outboard Engines (Tue, 21 Oct 2008 00:00:00 GMT) Some mercury 2.5 liter Optimax (135, 150, 175 horsepower) and 2.5 liter EFI (150, 200 horsepower) outboard engines are equipped with shift links that have insufficient weld penetration between the bracket and shift cable and upper shift shaft attaching studs. This could result in stud breakage and loss of shift control.

Mastercraft Maristar 280 and X-80 Fuel System (Tue, 23 Sep 2008 00:00:00 GMT) Possible safety defect report received Aug 29, 2008 (tracking number 08292008000001). A fuel tank vent line severed by flawed floor panel design, allowing gas fumes (and possibly gasoline itself) to accumulate in the bilge. This recall affects all Maristar 280 and X-80 model Mastercraft boats, both single-engine and twin-engine, which have been manufactured since the original date of production of this model in November, 2002 HIN: MBCHHFT8K203 through HIN: MBCGSDP7J809. See Mastercraft service bulletin no. 2008.date.sb-010. Mastercraft will install a specially designed fuel tank bracket which will eliminate the issue and will also inspect and replace any vent hose and/or fuel pump that appears to be damaged or shows signs of undue wear.

Yamaha 2008 Model 212X Sport Boats (Thu, 14 Aug 2008 00:00:00 GMT) Certain 2008 model 212X sport boats where there is a potential for the bimini top to collapse. If the bimini top is in the deployed position while the boat is underway it could collapse and strike the operator and/or passenger and could obstruct the drivers view which could result in an accident with the potential of personal injury or death to the operator, passengers, and or bystanders. Recvd DNR - 159 units sold, 286 units shipped to 230 dealers.

Pleasurecraft Engine Group 2008 Engines (Fri, 08 Aug 2008 00:00:00 GMT) Some engines in 2008 boats in which, due to improper assembly, the shift cable can potentially become detached from the tranmission shifting lever.

Malibu Boats 2008 (Except the Ride and Response Series) (Fri, 08 Aug 2008 00:00:00 GMT) ZF Marine has discovered the ZF Throttle and Shifter Control has the potential to fail, creating a loss of shifting capabilities in teh forward or reverse direction in all 2008 Model boats, excluding the Ride series, Response and Response LX.

Ebbtide 192 SE (Mon, 30 Jun 2008 00:00:00 GMT) Insufficient natural supply and exhaust ventilation openings.

Aztec Fabrications Phantom Sports Jon (Wed, 25 Jun 2008 00:00:00 GMT) Has two non-ignition protected 40 Amp circuit breakers in the gasoline engine compartment.

Bayliner Marine 205NBR 2008 Seat Pedestal Base Mount (Fri, 20 Jun 2008 00:00:00 GMT) Some 2008 Bayliner 205NBR Bowriders boat seat bases were installed using self-tapping screws instead of the 1/4 x 20 bolts screwed into a nut plate.

Tohatsu America TLDI (B Series) 70HP and 90HP Outboard Engines (Tue, 20 May 2008 00:00:00 GMT) There is a possibility that one of the bolts in the upper cowl may come in contact with the high pressure fuel filter located just below it. There is a possibility that the bolt could rub a hole in the high pressure fuel filter and cause fuel to leak from the filter, creating a hazardous situation.

Bombadier Recreational Products RXP 2008 (Mon, 12 May 2008 00:00:00 GMT) Under some circumstances steering stem arm abrasion with a fuel vent hose may cause fuel and or vapor leakage - possible fire or explosion if ignition source present.

BoatUS has a very extensive recall database that you might also be wise to check. BTW, some Honda outboards had a recall due to a possible failure in the fuel system that could lead to a nasty fire... if you own a Honda Outboard, might want to check with Honda.

You know what the first rule of sailing is? ...Love. You can learn all the math in the 'verse, but you take
a boat to the sea you don't love, she'll shake you off just as sure as the turning of the worlds. Love keeps
her going when she oughta fall down, tells you she's hurting 'fore she keens. Makes her a home.

There's a general recall on the Catalina 400 for an inability to sail. It does not apply to the George Foreman Edition which performs as advertised. (g)
