All whites are racist

That's what I took from Obama's choice for the first speech after the swearing in cermony.

This is what Lowery said within minutes of obama's oath: "We ask you to help us work for that day when black will not be asked to give back, when brown can stick around, when yellow will be mellow, when the red man can get ahead, man, and when white will embrace what is right."

Obama calls for an end to racial strife but picks a controversial black man to give this speech, calling out all whites. I'm having a hard time accepting him as "my" president.

I can certainly understand giving the man (Lowery) a place of honor for the Inauguration. I think allow him to speak divisive words at the very time the new Pres. Obama is preaching unity and accountability was a big mistake.

I did not hear this speech; so I'll need to read all of it so I can understand it in context. The way you've presented it; it does sound somewhat divisive; OR poorly phrased because it "rhymes" so good.......

I am white (see the picture) and I as most every white person have at times contributed to racism, and I see that as a flaw

I don't generally participate in these discussions, however, I really do take umbrage with this belief that 'racism' is the province of whites.

Racism, xenophobia, etc. are a human condition. Many examples of which can be found in all human races.

Introspection or no, when all races admit to their own faults, only then will healing begin. Right now whites get most of the blame despite the many advances made in the US in the 200+ years of our existence.
