Question Body in the water

It's mostly off-topic, since it doesn't have anything particularly to do with sailing exactly.

But on Sunday, someone spotted a body floating in the water in the very near vicinity of where I dock my boat in Basin D at Marina Del Rey. I know, because a friend that lives near there saw the commotion and called me worried to make sure it wasn't me.

Anyone in Marina Del Rey know anything? I've called the police to check on it and they were willing to verify that yes, a body had been fished out of the water there and they couldn't make any other statement. There's been nothing in the news yet.

I'm pretty aware of my surroundings and safety conscious in general - but it would be awesome to know if this was a natural occurrence or the result of criminal activity. I head by my boat a lot in the evenings before heading home, just to wind down and putter around on the boat for a bit. If I hadn't been working on Sunday, I'd have been on the boat heading out for a sail about the time they apparently found the body.

Once you found the body didn't belong to anyone you know I hope you placed it in a Lobster pot and threw it back in the water and how many did they catch the first time LOL LOL!!!

Valiente has a spectacular aura about Valiente has a spectacular aura about
At last year's launch I was driving the crash boat with a former cop who was a diver with the Marine Unit, among other things. He had some gruesomely fascinating stories about how flowers bloom in the spring, and bodies bob to the surface as the warming water allows the, uh, "creation of lighter than air gases". As we were doing slow turns in a patch of water (the Western Gap) known for its suicides and occasional "mob disciplinary actions", it was a way to pass time while making sure people didn't fall in the water.

Among the many nasty if scientifically fascinating things he mentioned is how the little fish take a liking to a body part and leave the rest, i.e. finding a mostly intact and identifiable body with the flesh completely stripped from one foot inside a boot.

So whatever its provenance, I hope your floater was fresh.
