A Salutary Tale

Oh brethren hear my words and weep.

For they are but a poor congregation of refugees from another place who looked upon their fellows with a disapproving, yea even bellicose eye. Claustrophobia ensued and being your tired and huddled masses yearning to be free, they took flight upon a troubled cyber sea, in search of freedom..albeit with restrictions...and the cry went up...

"Two flaggings shalt ye have, two shall be the number thereof no more no less. Three flaggings shall ye not have neither shall one suffice, two only shall be sufficient for your cause. Yea verily, should ye be twice flagged your words shall be hurled forthwith into the pit from which they shall rise no more." Condemned to spend eternity with the cussers and the liberals.

Having found the promised land, a land awash with (pasturised) milk and honey, they set about building the new Great Society.

Sadly, there came upon them barbarians from the north. Foul smelling hippies and sundry nare-do-wells from both left and right, long haired and bearded who did not blend in. As unholy an alliance as ever was seen.

Unbelievers who worshipped not at the altar of Calvin , whose feet were not clad in regulation Docksiders, nor legs swathed in Chino of the House of Lauren. (that's Calvin as in 16th century English theologian ye bozzos, not he of Hobbes or Klein.)

Yikes they cried (for cussing was not allowed) and Yikes again, we are set upon by foul heathens.

Invaded by the uncouth masses who would question our flaggings and the quantity thereof.

A circling of wagons ensued. and the crowd did cry out "oh golly the danger and the doubt has fallen upon us. Woe unto us for we are accursed. Therefore we should move in a circular manner whilst screaming and shouting out to our Admin and Sully ....."Oh yikes."

and they did...in ever decreasing circles.

Here endeth the Lesson.

Let us Pray.

Another traveller happened one rainy Sydney afternoon upon a citadel with a big wooden door, bored he knocked tentatively and waited.

"Welcome traveller to the democratic republic of Antisailnet. We welcome all who have become outcast and rejected. Give us your dumb, give us your weak, give us your stupid" A Sullied voice bellowed from above.

"umm thanks"

"Be thee a wretched heathen sailnetter or friend??" was the welcome, bellowed, the travellor did receive.....

"Neither, merely a lover of boats am I, but what lays here within?? A burning pile of corpses I doth see...."

"We are under 'Marshall' law traveller, BANNINGS we must have" A second voice bellowed.

"ahh don't you mean Martial MR??"

"Dont question my typing or BANNINGS It will be" bellowed the second now unsure voice.

"oh, Ok then. So umm where are those funny guys Alex and Smack? They crack me up"

"To mention those names brings BANNING"

Oh ok. Hey Alex's videos are still here thought he wanted those removed?"

"To mention Alex = BANNING. To mention videos = BANNING. To ask me a question = BANNING."

"oh gee a thought this was a democra....."

"BANNED, BANNED, BANNED, TORCH THEM"

"Hey ok sorry MR, ummm holy crap"

" BLASPHEMER!!!!! WE ARE MILD MANNERED CRUISING FOLK! POTTY MOUTHED BLASPHEMER BANNED, BANNED, BANNED, TORCH THEM REVEREND THEY MUST BE BANNED"

"POTTY MOUTHED.....DRUNKEN...... FRATBOYS!!! BANNED"

"but MR im just a little aussie here to talk cruising...we don't even have Fratboys down here, and hey aren't sailors mean't to be drunken?? Didn't they even write a song about one"

"BANNED, BANNED, BANNED, BANNED"

You know what the first rule of sailing is? ...Love. You can learn all the math in the 'verse, but you take
a boat to the sea you don't love, she'll shake you off just as sure as the turning of the worlds. Love keeps
her going when she oughta fall down, tells you she's hurting 'fore she keens. Makes her a home.

I noticed that the admin over at stuffers has said something about changing the way the forum works there. However, it looks more like a way to get free code development than anything else. It says:

Quote:
If people wish to have changes made to the way the board functions on a system level, we now have a simple way for you to do it.

1) Submit the custom PHP / vBulletin source code, tested and bug free, ready for integration along with instructions on how to integrate it.

...
That seems to be asking for someone else to do the code development, and I'd be curious as to what rights/compensation the developer would get for submitting code. Last I checked vBulletin wasn't Open Source, and as such doesn't require the code used for it be Open Source and in the public domain.

Of course, one reason may be that stuffiminto.com is a new startup, with no proven track record as internet ventures go, and no corporate resources to speak of. I am basing this on the company's own description of itself.

Quote:
The stuffiminto.com, Incorporated Mission

To greatly simplify the Web 2.0 experience for users, replacing redundancy.
Our Products

We (read I) have a model for a new type of social networking site designed to simplify the user experience, replacing a lot of redundancy on the web today.
Our Team

Made up of the just the founder, who has successfully founded a technology company in the past and has worked in the venture capital arena, providing him with VC friends/contacts.

The founder started his career with a BS in Physics, worked as a C++ developer, in International Sales, then founded his previous company.

The founder is fun, friendly, informal and creative. Enjoys brainstorming sessions and understands how to work with developers and development groups since he was one. He envisions an egalitarian relationship with others at stuffiminto.com, rather than a top-down structure.

He believes that the development group will make or break the company, as well as lead the direction of the company in many ways.

Overview of the company:

Stuffiminto.com is startup web 2.0 corporation formed in Delaware. The company was founded by a “serial entrepreneur” who has founded prior technology companies and is well known in business circles in New York City. The founder has a background in physics, software development, international sales, venture capital, gorilla marketing and has been infatuated with computers since he saved up to buy his first one, in 1981 for $20. He was 10 yrs old.

Stuffiminto.com’s immediate plans are to develop and launch the stuffiminto.com website, building a very unique and rapidly growing online community, replacing a lot of redundancy in online communities / social networking sites on the web today.

After the launch and a period of growth, the founder will use established personal connections within the venture capital community to secure funding. Ultimately, stuffiminto.com will position itself as a target for acquisition. Stock options are available to the lead developer as well as all founding members of the development team.
I'm guessing that the serial entrepreneur would be Sully. I like how the top description says:

Quote:
The founder started his career with a BS in Physics, worked as a C++ developer, in International Sales, then founded his previous company.
and the company description says:

Quote:

This, by the description above is his second company... that really isn't a serial entrepreneur in my book...

Also, given the rocky start to the cruising portion of stuffiminto... I see this bombing royally.

Far away in the tropical waters of the Caribbean , two prawns were swimming around in the sea. One called Justin and the other called Christian. The prawns were constantly being harassed and threatened by sharks that inhabited the area. Finally one day Justin said to Christian, 'I'm fed up with being prawn; I wish I was a shark, and then I wouldn't have any worries about being eaten. A large mysterious cod appeared and said, 'Your wish is granted. Lo and behold, Justin turned into a shark. Horrified, Christian immediately swam away, afraid of being eaten by his old mate. Time passed (as it does) and Justin found life as a shark boring and lonely. All his old mates simply swam away whenever he came close to them. Justin didn't realize that his new menacing appearance was the cause of his sad plight.
While swimming alone one day he saw the mysterious cod again and he thought perhaps the mysterious fish could change him back into a prawn.
He approached the cod and begged to be changed back, and, lo and behold, he found himself turned back into a prawn. With tears of joy in his tiny little eyes Justin swam back to his friends and bought them all a cocktail. Looking around the gathering at the reef he realized he couldn't see his old pal. Where's Christian?' he asked. He's at home, still distraught that his best friend changed sides to the enemy & became a shark', came the reply. Eager to put things right again and end the mutual pain and torture, he set off to Christian's abode. As he opened the coral gate, memories came flooding back.
He banged on the door and shouted, 'It's me, Justin, your old friend, come out and see me again. Christian replied, 'No way man, you'll eat me. You're now a shark, the enemy, and I'll not be tricked into being your dinner.'
Justin cried back 'No, I'm not. That was the old me. I've changed. I've found Cod. I'm a Prawn again Christian.

Near as I can tell, Stuffers is just CF with the out of favor clique from there in charge.

Fluffy - Calvinist was the word that had been running through my mind as well.
