Tiger Woods Speech
TIGER WOODS SPEECH AT THE INAUGURATION:
> > Tiger Woods received a special invitation to speak at the
> inauguration. His inviters were stunned, when he did not deliver the
> message they expected. You will see why the media swept it under the
> rug with no further ado, who & why of a certain element is pissed off
> at Tiger.
> > Below is the text of his speech, entitled:
> > "You'll Never Walk Alone," as posted on his
> Web site:
> > "I grew up in a military family - and my role models
> in life were my Mom and Dad, Lt. Colonel Earl Woods. My dad was a
> Special Forces operator and many nights friends would visit our home.
> They represented every branch of the service, and every rank.
> > "In my Dad, and in those guests, I saw first hand the dedication and
> commitment of those who serve. They come from every walk of life. From
> every part of our country. Time and again, across generations, they
> have defended our safety in the dark of night and far from home.
> > "Each day -- and particularly on this historic day --
> we honor the men and women in uniform who serve our country and
> protect our freedom. They travel to the dangerous corners of the
> world, and we must remember that for every person who is in uniform,
> there are families who wait for them to come home safely.
> > > "I am honored that the military is such an important
> part, not just of my personal life, but of my professional one as
> well. The golf tournament we do each year here in Washington is a
> testament to those unsung heroes.
> > "I am the son of a man who dedicated his life to his
> country, family and the military, and I am a better person for it.
> > > "In the summer of 1864, Abraham Lincoln, the man at
> whose memorial we stand, spoke to the 164th Ohio Regiment
> and said: 'I am greatly obliged to you, and to all who
> have come forward at the call of their country.'
> > > "Just as they have stood tall for our country - we
> must always stand by and support the men and women in
> uniform and their families.
> > > "Thank you, and it is now my pleasure to introduce the
> US Naval Glee Club."
> > > ====
> > I have never been more proud of Tiger Woods than when I
> heard his 2-minute tribute to the military at the Inaugural
> Celebration in Washington DC. You know he was greatly
> pressured to be there. Liberals have been mad at him for a
> decade for not joining their ranks. You know he didn't
> want to be there. So instead of paying homage to Obama, he
> paid tribute to our soldiers. Not one time did he mention
> Obama, the inauguration or the new administration. He knew
> beforehand that his love for America, and appreciation for
> our military men & women would anger them further. But
> Tiger is his own man; his father taught him to be his own
> man.
> > Somewhere over that cold, gray Washington sky, old Earl
> Woods was smiling down on his beloved son. And there will
> be one more crying hug waiting for Tiger when he passes
> through the Pearly Gates into God's arms.

Tiger Woods gave a rah-rah, support-the-troops speech, and praised his father’s memory. So what?
Nice sentiments, but hardly a recipe for ecstasy.
Tiger did not risk anything by speaking about how proud he is of his father, or his support for those who serve their country. It is not the least bit controversial, nor is there the slightest possibility of injuring one's public reputation (or harming one's endorsements), by celebrating the sacrifices military people make, or cherishing one’s father.
As one observer said: “the actual content of the speech was tepid as weak tea, a bland tribute to standing for the troops that could have been given by any Republican or Democrat at any point over the last fifty years.”

SO WHAT? The man goes through life with grace. Just like he handled the comment about the fried chicken. Endorsements are his income. Is he suppose to lower himself like many athletes do & throw away his income. I would call him diplomatic. I would call him a gentlemen. Something many people in this world lack .......i2f

Dude, seriously. Like already mentioned: he's an athlete that gets paid (in sums of money that are hard to comprehend) to keep a squeaky clean image and stay above this fray. He took NO stance.
It's crap like this that makes it hard on the guy. He says nothing and people slam him or people praise him. I'm not saying let's have a pity party for Tiger Woods or Michael Jordan. But if you can't understand why these dudes don't take stances on issues, you've got issues.
I'm not sure if that quote is yours, but why do you feel the need to put it here. I'm not taking any sides (really), I just hate to see Americans calling Americans un-American. From either side to the other...
His love for America angers Americans? His appreciation of our men and women in uniform angers Americans? You really believe that?

what on earth is there in that speech to anger liberals or anyone else? All I know about Tiger is that he has the most beautiful golf swing ever and must make a billion dollars a year in advertising revenue. Oh and he has a hot wife.

What obviously escapes our progressive brethren is that, placed in a similar situation, you'd not have heard the Oprah's or the Whoopie's of the world make a similar speech.
It's not so much that anything Mr. Woods said was unique or even particularly inspiring, it was that he chose to say it at all. On the left, it is derigueur to say that we all support the troops. And the alarum is sounded by those therein that it is declasse to question one's patriotism or Americaness by noting anything about public utterences in support of those troops.
The glaring fact for most American observers is that, given ample opportunities, those on the left never quite seem to get around to uttering those words which convey just how much they, and we, owe those troops past and present. It's just not cool to salute the troops when everyone knows that America is rife with serious problems. Problems that most countries would be lucky to have if anyone took the time to think about it.
The least that we can do is say thank you, as Tiger did. That some choose to do less than the least, does not go unignored, despite the damage it does to their sensitive feelings of aggrievement.
(Notice how the responses above first state that Tiger risked nothing, as if that were a requirement of a serious speech, and then we receive the lament on how sad it is to see Americans calling each other un-American, as if Tiger did so in his speech. The speech of a patriot is disparaged while the leftist's status as victim remains inviolable.)

Sway, I seriously doubt you read my post. Where on earth did I say anything about Tiger calling Americans un-American? I was accusing the OP or at minimum the OP's source.
The other point of my last post, which you are clearly proving here, is that a man like Tiger Woods, who makes his money because of his golf swing and his smile, does not go out of his way to make political or social statements. (As the OP suggested Tiger did, by not mentioning Obama.) Thanking the troops (with whatever level of thanks you require to be a true American) is not making a statement, yet here people are, "Tiger said, Tiger said!".
Oprah and Whoopie, on the other hand, make their money with their opinions, not their jump shots or golf swings. Though I'm not sure their jumpshots aren't better.
I can't believe I'm writing about this. I can't believe it's a thread. Tiger thanked the troops. Thank you Tiger. I'm going sailing.
Oh, crap. No I'm not. My boat is under a tarp that's under snow.
