Kilts, Sarongs and other non trouser like apparel

Now on another site the women there are asking if the men would wear a kilt.
Before you answer the question, consider that in Scotland and parts of Ireland, Men did and still do wear kilts. And in the Pacific islands and parts of Asia many men do wear sarongs or Lavi-lavis. And many of those Celts were very macho warriors.

Now would you wear a kilt on the boat? At home? At work? At a social gathering?

Now gentlemen remember it is a Kilt... for calling it a skirt will get you kilt.

What would your Wife be saying about this item of clothing??

A kilt sure would make all those cool activities over in "Living Aboard" a lot easier.

I wore a lava-lava while I was in the Solomons. Kind of refreshing - with a nice breeze for "the boys". But I wouldn't wear it on a boat. When warriors go to battle in the South Pacific - they toss the lava-lava. Straight to the loin cloth, dude - or in Vanuatu the "man sheath". Now the latter is a style I'm advocating at our yacht club. I'm not having a lot of luck - but boy am I comfy. Blue blazer, ha!

You should also see the cannibal fork I bought over there. Zowie!

Would I wear a Kilt? Yes, and proudly! However, a kilt is not sailing gear. It is warmer that you think as it is made of wool. I have no experience with the others.

The modern Scottish kilt worn with formal evening wear.

Yes, I wear a kilt both for formal wear and on occasion "on the street". No one ever teases me, and the ladies love it. The Doc Martens boots really set off my manly knees.

Of course, the fact I look like this guy from Braveheart could be a factor:

There's only a narrow band of weather in which a kilt would be either too warm or too cold in which to sail. It would always be too heavy, and the possibly of snagging on things is pretty great.

That is hilarious. And practical, but you need to make the middle indentations two sizes bigger for the average kilt wearer.

Keeps the old stones from gathering moss. I'd do it. I wouldn't be the first one wearing a skirt but I'd be the second.
