Finally, got the Chevelle to idle..

Found the vacuum leak and here's the result.

Now all I have to do is cure some minor leaks.

Wow, that brings back some memories, I used to own a '70 Chevelle, Gold with Black stripes. Blew the headers off the manifold taking off from a red light Needless to say, the timing was off

I got a few leaks to cure and the tune needs tweaked. It already fouled some plugs because the idle circuit's to rich. Time to pull the covers and check valve clearance too. Typical race car crap. It's supposed to rain for the next week or so...

Very cool

Here is a carb adjusting trick I learned a long time ago.

Pull a major vacuum hose like the one that goes to the brake booster.

If the idle speed rises your carb is too rich. More air to mix with the excessive fuel.

If the idle speed falls your carb is too lean. More air and not enough fuel.

The only way to correctly set idle fuel is with a vacuum gauge.
Start by screwing the needle valves in all the way -do not torque them in! - then back them out 1 1/2 turns. Attach your gauge, idle it while watching vacuum. Adjust for maximum vacuum.

Setting Idle Mixture The Right Way
