Rep points...It's not what you think...

I've only been active on this board for about a year and a half. I never paid attention to the rep points, I just see that I have a couple.
I just found where I can see who gave me the points and why.
Thanks.
(I'm a quick learner)

'Rep' points are a can of worms that gets opened occasionally.

They are 'Reputation' points. Each member can provide another member with a rep point by clicking on the little balance (scales) icon in the top, right-hand corner of the message screen. What I discovered yesterday was that these points can be found on your user CP page. The person who gives you the points can also leave a brief message explaining why they gave you the points. I just found that yesterday as well. It was nice to see some supportive comments from posts that I had made that I thought had been ignored.

The number of rep points on my CP is not reflected by the number I can see in the header for my messages. I think this feature was disconnected because there was some abuse of the system at one time.

At one time a member could give 'negative rep points'. This, as you can imagine, caused a bit of drama.

I'm saving my rep points to buy a new chart plotter.

Rep points are affected by how long you've been a member, and how many people click on the scales. Previously they were also affected by the number of posts you had.. They also had negative rep, which has been since disabled, but occasionally, you'll see a member with a red square instead of a green one, which indicates that they have a negative rep overall.

You know what the first rule of sailing is? ...Love. You can learn all the math in the 'verse, but you take
a boat to the sea you don't love, she'll shake you off just as sure as the turning of the worlds. Love keeps
her going when she oughta fall down, tells you she's hurting 'fore she keens. Makes her a home.

I just found them after a year and a half.

I just opened the user CP (a link is found at the left end of the blue line below the main banner) and there they were!

I should really pay more attention.
