Champions League Football.

It's a damn shame that so few here are interested in European football but given that AS seems to be having problems this morning I am pleased to report that Barcelona have beaten Chelsea , albeit in somewhat controversial circumstances, to advance to the final of the Champions League against Manchester United.

That pleases me no end, cos I must admit that having drawn 0-0 in the Nou Camp leg in Barcelona and being down 1-0 at Stamford Bridge coming into extra time I thought they were gone for all money, particularly as they were playing one man down after Eric Abidal was red carded. However, they came back to take the tie with an Andrés Iniesta goal in extra time.

Wombat loves Barca. They've been my team since I first visited that beautiful city over twenty years ago, although I must admit I'm also a fan of perennial cellar dwellers Athletico Bilbao.

(yes I know, none of you have any idea what I am talking about but there you go.)

Hey fuzzy...Congrats on collecting on your bet! Should be a good final.
I am no Chelsea fan...but frankly....they were robbed. I counted at least 4 penalty kicks that could have been awarded but were not. Now I understand the ref does not want to award something lightly...but FOUR passes?? Just awful. And he has knocked both Alves and Abidal out of the finals as well.
Just a horrendous job of refereeing. On the plus side...both goals scored were crackers and Barca did it with 10 men so good on them.
On to Rome!!

Just tried to find Chelsea on my sat nav, apparently its only 2 minutes from Rome

Maybe 10 minutes from Hyde Park. Just a bit further from Rome. After today's match ... even further

I woke up late so missed most of the first half then having allowed for SSS and breakfast had to drive to work. Didn't see enough of the game to give a considered opinion. Will watch the replay this evening.
All I can be sure of is that should Man U win in Rome it will assuredly have been the work of cheating MU players and corrupt officials.

Heheheh...you forgot the ManU fans chanting all night outside the Barca hotel so that they entered the game sleepless!!

BTW...have you seen the soccer flick "A Shot at Glory" with Robert Duvall playing the manager of a Scottish Club? Well done! Something to keep you occupied between now and the 27th!
