I have read it...or, say, tried to read it.
I have carefully studied Objectivism and have some members of my own family (including my father) who subscribe to it.

It is typical of many theories in that it certainly has some truths in it. Then again, so does Scientology. The problem is that folks tend to cling to these ideologies rather than actually looking at any examples in the real world.

Try asking a libertarian or Ayn Rand devotee for one country or state in the world which ever has succeeded using their ideas. They readily admit it does not exist! In fact, we just experienced what happens when you let unbridled capitalism control our country!

I'm just hoping, probably against hope, that the OP will see that it is not Mr. Obama he should fear, but probably the ideas which he himself is starting to believe.

Of course, that is my opinion only.

Cardiac- thanks, glad to see some rational thinking here, and some actual facts.

Craig- you're not paying attention. In my original post I said that I had thought and said many of the same things that Mr. Pritchett said in his letter. I am thinking for myself, always have and hopefully always will. In my career I have been dirt poor at times because I always felt that I would rather be poor than work for someone else, and I have also owned several small businesses and am now retired at 58 living on the beach and looking forward to several years of sailing. I've done well by thinking for myself for a long time now and don't need you to give me some cliche ridden advice about it. What has made the USA the greatest nation on Earth? Opportunity. Whether you were an immigrant that didn't speak english or born with a silver spoon in your mouth you had the opportunity to make your dreams come true in this country. Nothing stood in your way except your own desire to work hard and become successful. You didn't need a college degree (I don't have one) and you didn't need anyone's permission. All you have ever had to do is work hard, think, and make the right decisions and take some risks. There aren't many places on Earth that you can say that about and we won't be able to say it about our country much longer if the current administration continues it's Robin Hood approach to social engineering. I want my kids and grandkids (and yours) to have the same opportunity that I had, to succeed or fail and to reap the rewards of your efforts. This is not what President Obama has in mind, and you don't have to be a genius to see that.

Sen Dodd should be strung up for what he's done. I don't know about Franks. From what I've seen of Poll numbers, the Dodd situation will take care of itself as he's up for election soon and is doubtful to survive the primaries.

One waits with bated breath for the emergence of the new "green Edsals" to come from Government Motors, whilst they follow an Amtrack trajectory to profitability.

Franks has already pressured GM into rescinding the closure of a plant in his district and Congress is already weighing in (both sides) on the question of the appropriate number of dealerships for GM and Chrysler. But have no fear, Bambi has assured us, the "car guys" will make all the decisions. Much like his calls for fiscal restraint, these of course only occur AFTER they've done what they want to do.

Mr Prickit (correct spelling) is a moron. LARGE CORPORATIONS LIKE P&G SCARE ME. Large corporations scare me because corporations inherently act only in their self interest, never in the interest of the public and rarely in the interest of their consumers. This is because there are no morals in corporations by design. Small companies and corporations have to answer to their customer because of their size and often reflect the morals of their principles (I know I owned 2). Large corporations are detached from these influences and hire PR people like Prickit to make it look like they care and have morals. Pure capitalism brought about large corporations who squandered the gold that we call America. Capitalism needs to be regulated. The trashing of the worlds greatest economy by deregulation of the banking industry proves this. Large corporations should scare you as they can bring about the destruction of the USA.
