Unhappy Liability Insurance for moorage

Liability insurance. I would like to buy a less expensive boat and I want to be able to moor it in BC Canada. I amwanting to know. How can I get basic insurance for a 27 ft sailboat 1970s sailboat with out getting a haul-out and a survey. I want to insure it for ...say $5000 or less and be completely covered for liability.
What I do not want to do is pay $1000 for ahaul out and survey for a boat that cost $5000 or less.
Can anyone help me please?
Thanks

I checked on an agreed value policy on my ariel, (included liability) and insurers didn't require a haul out or survey.
Maybe some Canadian insurer will have the same type policy.?

Think the survey/haul out is typically only required for an actual value policy, they NEED to know exactly what they are insuring, and the best way to find out is a survey.

Do you own a car and have insurance on it? Often a boat that small can be insured as a second vehicle with your auto insurer, and they tend to be fairly lax about what they require. (And also, sometimes not too sharp at damage surveys or at making sure your coverage will be everything you need.)

Fastest way to find out? Call a couple of brokers, insurance is a compeitive business and if one quote is way way cheaper than the rest--the odds are it is leving something out. Like the cost of eco cleanup and salvage removal, which can be substantial, and a real risk.

Avoiding a survey because it is costly is false economy. You'll read many accounts here of how a buyer recouped the cost of the survey in price adjustments for defects and shortcomings.

You risk spending the $5K and ending up with something worth much less, unless you're an experienced boater already able to weed out the bad ones. And even then you may well miss something.

If all you need and want is liability insurance, though, that may be available without checking into the state of the boat itself. Even a rider on your household insurance might be possible.

But even on a $5K boat, I think a survey is well advised, and I think the haul and survey should be doable for less than $1K for a 25-27 footer.

I believe if it has a 10hp motor or less, it can go on as a rider on your home insurance without a survey but they could have changed that now. I've seen people use a tidal grid to do a survey and it might cost you $40 plus the survey.
