What will you save if your house gonna on fire?

Hi to all,

My mom often said that if she could only save one thing, it would be our family photos — though that's not as relevant today in the age of digital photography. Has your home ever caught fire? If so, you probably went the safe route and saved yourself before your stuff. But if your house were burning and you could only save one thing, what would it be?

If everyone and pets are safe then I'd get the photos.

We have a fire safe for things like mortgage and insurance papers. There is no money or valuables in there, only papers.

We also have a small fire safe for old family videos. I suppose we should convert the movies to digital so we actually watch them.

Regards,
Brad

I'd save the receipt showing that I paid the last insurance premium.

I'd probably grab the fire extinguisher and try to get it out. If I had to leave, I'd grab my watch collection and get out quick before the 16,000 rounds of ammo goes off.

One thing? My daughter.
Things are replacable. Pictures are only reminders of memories, and if my memories are gone the pictures lose their meaning.
I could walk through my home and just don't see that much that I'm attached to, though I'd like to keep my memory stick with my writings... recreating those would be tough and time consuming.

Well I have been there and done this and I can tell you that you would be suprised at what you will do. Now this was 30 years ago and I was single at the time so no kids to save. In my case after calling the fire department I pushed my MG out of the carport along with my Yamaha 650, ran back into the house ignored the cash (1000.00) I had sitting on a table in the bed room and closed all the doors and windows. I didnt grab the photos, I didnt grab my service memorabilia, I didnt grab my record collection. I got myself out safe and gave the FD the best opportunity to save the House. I then spent the entire time while the FD was putting out the fire trying to remember if I paid the Insurance. As a 20 something kid I got out what was important to me, my vehicles. I wish I had got out my photos and service stuff. Make sure those photos are safe in your house because when the time comes you will get yourself out and the photos will burn. I was lucky I got out and yes I had paids the Insurance But dont expect to remember the photos when it happens. I guarantee you will remember your family tho.

My wife would save her jewelry. I told her to get my 1960 Gibson 330 archtop electric guitar out after the kids. I paid $185 for it in 1968. It is worth from $2,000 to $12,000 these days. It will be my axe 'til the day I die. I may have her bury it with me.
