Talking What kind of people do ya meet on forums?

Some of the best friends you could find. One of mine, whom everybody knows as Stillraining or Scott, has been letting me use his magnificent man-cave shop to do woodwork for Oh Joy. I was posting about how I need to get a bandsaw at the shop for finish fitment work and woke up to this email titled
Saturday is Christmas".

Hey I just bought you a band saw to use...I pick it up tomorrow night...lets get you both it and the jointer delivered up to your boat shed Saturday...

Here's the saw...

Craftsman Band Saw

How amazing is this

It's a great group... those of us who have managed to meet in person in the various areas seem to have great get togethers... Yesterday's rallying to Garfinn's dinghy crisis is another example!

Good on ya, Still....

Scott is as good a bloke as I've ever met online. Certainly if I do ever make it to Seattle he'll be the first bloke I'll be buying a beer and I tell you that visit will entail buying quite a few beers for the denizens of SailNet, AS and SA. Scott however is numero uno.

A year back I'd been discussing the woeful availability of oil lamps in Australia and sure enough, one turns up in the mail courtesy of guess who ? Of course he has refused any form of payment but that again is the measure of the man.

Not to mention the fact that he has offered to lend us his boat if we are just visiting. Visiting ? Bugger that, I'm moving in !!

Obviously Scott has one slight problem. He's an idiot. See previous paragraph. I rest my case.

Here's to Still.

I believe this was supposed to be something of a gushing tribute to your good self.

But I've hijacked it.

We were lucky kiddo.....we had the lamp sitting on a mat which absorbed the oil as it leaked out but the scent took a while to go away. What has happened is that the seam at the bottom of the base has opened up and also where the filler tube joins the base. More a seap than a gush. Will bring it back to our workshop and solder up the seams. Hey presto....all fixed.

The lamp itself is actually pretty good quality. Wick mech works well and overal quite solid. In winter we use it down below as a heater (in a mild winter as we have here it's perfect) and in summer hang it off the boom as anchor light and mosquito coil.

Here endeth the hijack....
