any bet that they will want to oversee the rocks with fed money and local people. then said fed money will go to looking at the rocks and welfare or many other "programs". or someones brother inlaw will get a 150 k per year job to stare at the rocks.

Oh, they'll use our money alright, meanwhile, unemployment is plus 12% and rising, businesses are closing and/or moving elsewhere, central valley is a dust bowl with 100's of farms beings lost because of a 2" fish; but hey, the local environmental org. and it's crew will be funded for life to watch over rocks

I swear, any moment I know I'm going to see the Mad Hatter run pass me on the I-5

Under the new legislation, the CCNM would be responsible for long-term maintenance and local stewardship.

How exactly does one maintain a rock?
I feel I need to quote a movie here. "Nobody sits like this rock sits. You rock, rock. The rock just sits and is. You show us how to just sit here and that's what we need."

If I read the story correctly the plan is to make sure we don't do anything with rocks we haven't done anything with. To keep not doing what we haven't been doing. My head hurts.

I would take that 150k job though, just putting that out there.

California's basic problem is that they have set up a situation where it takes a 2/3 majority to pass a new tax but only a 51% majority to pass new spending. It is no mystery why after a few decades there has been a lot more new spending passed than new taxes. Be as anti-tax as you like - if you dont keep spending in line with your wallet there will eventually be big trouble. That is as true of individuals as it is of states.

your right SCK about the spending and tax issues in kali, but they have some of the highest tax burden in the country. the democrats in control keep passing more spending, knowing they cant raise the taxes even higher.

so what i want to know is what is the problem, the laws that exist or those who raise the spending knowing they cant get the funding to cover it? the laws are a good thing as it SHOULD stop rampant spending but it has not.

Ca. is a model for what's to come; once one of the largest economies in the world is now rated by Moody’s as Baa1 which is three levels above non-investment grade. Fitch Investors rates Ca. at BBB which is two ranks above so-called high-yield, high- risk junk ratings.

Yeah, the blame can be set at the feet of the polititions on both sides for having the spine of jello, but the real problem is the environmental groups both privately run and the environmentalist dominated and controlled State & federal agencies, they are who pull the strings and our polititions just react

What your seeing in Ca. is what we have to look forward to nation wide if we don't grow a pair and start using some common sence.

How does closing 12 million plus acres of public land benefit our state economy?, how does destroying the local sportfishing industry benefit?, how does making it so difficult to run businesses in the state (thanks to the EPA & ESA ) they seek business friendly states and/or counties benefit?, how does taxing the public to make up for the short fall caused by the above and eventually driving people out of the state by the train loads benefit?, How does shutting the water off to the central valley to protect a 2" delta smelt at the expense of one of the states largest source of revenue and the lives and livelyhoods of hundreds of farmers benefit?

What the local congressman did was turf the pre-legislated responsibility to the fed, thus saving the state of Cal. lots of money they would otherwise be responsible for. Nice of the folks in Omaha to step up to the plate.

Socialism only works as long as there is some one to take the money from.
