Life without 2 year contracts

"Sorry Ma'mam Direct tv requires a 2 yr contract."

V-----ion and all the other contract cell phones; "New Phone cheap!" (2 yr committment)

and so on and so on..

3 months left on my V----ion cell phone. I'm feeling like a prisoner about to be let out! sheese!

I just picked up cricket for my wireless internet. 3g fast too. I'm happy. no contract!

I just tired of the 2 year thing, it seems to be getting more prevelant too.

what's next?

and.. don't mention C--c-st!

Check out the Wave Magnum wireless adapter. That and internet tv would enable you to tell V-----ion and C--c-st where to file their 2 year contracts.

That sounds GREAT, but the coverage seems really limited... They seem to have good coverage along a corridor from Trenton NJ to DC, and in Charleston SC to Savanah GA but that's it... Otherwise you're in "Premium Extended Coverage" - whatever that is, or Roaming (which means you need to pay in body parts).

(Note that I HATE dealing with V-on & C-c-st)

i use cricket phones for now, right now the best deal i have seen is the straight talk from walmart. its a walmart tracfone partnership. 1000 mins, 1000 texts, and some web time is 30 bucks, or 45 buck for unlimited. it uses the verizon network so the coverage is pretty good. as soon as i break my current phone its what i am going too. the wife is already on it.

i dont do cellular internet and dont plan on it.

i do like the fact that i can walk away at any time, and there are cheap phones to be had, or even buy an unlocked phone and do some programming to get them to work on other networks

I'm with you. I absolutely HATE cell phone companies and their contracts. And their "mandatory" fees and all that other jazz.

That Walmart Tracfone thing sounds like a great deal. I might check that out!

AMEN! I don't purchase anything that is contract based. If your product is good - you shouldn't need to trap your "customers"...

So would it be $30 for 1000 min and 1000 texts no matter how long I take to use them? Or do they "expire" at the end of the month?

they expire monthly or when you put a new card on, so you do kind of need to wait till 30 days or you loose the extra days. but to go to say net 10 which is 10 cents a min no matter what with no daily it would be a 100 a month if you use them all not including texting. the other options if you dont travel would be cricket, but you need to add 10 bucks a month to there prices for "taxes and fees".

if you dont use a phone much the best deal is net 10, a 100 dollar 1000 min card is good for 6 months IIRC.

T mobile prepaid is better than net10. It is ten cents a minute, but way better coverage.
