My Guess, I'll be BANNED for this..
Superpickle,
SailNet promotes a family-friendly community, focussed primarily on sailing topics. We do offer an off-topic forum, but our forum rules state that all posts, including those to the off-topic forums, must adhere to the standards of the forum.
We've received more than a few complaints about your posts, and have had to edit several of them for inappropriate content.
You are welcome to continue participating in this forum -- we offer plenty of sailing-related material that is helpful to novice and experienced sailors alike. But you will need to tone down and clean-up the language in your posts. Our best advice would be to avoid the off-topic forums and focus on the sailing subject matter.
The "Offtopic" intro post:
This is the Off Topic Forum
From me personally, this forum will get more Leeway than others. It is a place for sailors to talk about things that are typically not just (or at all) sailing related. Many of these discussions become heated. There may be pictures here that you feel are inappropriate and topics that you do not like.
If you do not like it, steer clear of it. It will be monitored by myself and the other moderators, but not nearly as strongly. I prefer a little more free discussion here and a little more guarded discussions elsewhere.
For those that are thin skinned or easily offended, you should steer clear of the Off Topic Forum. This is especially true of Fight Club and Ass full of Crap. We also ask that you refrain from giving positive or negative rep's based upon any content in the Off Topic section. This system is meant as a way to judge the advice given on sailing related topics.
....................................You have been warned...........................
- CD
PS It will still be moderated, so please retain some level of civility, please.

So are you trying to get banned? That's a pretty clear, fair note from CD. What's the problem?

You have chosen to share part of what was a thoughtful and gentle admonishment from the moderating team in the form of a PM asking you to tone down some of your statements in your postings that were being reported by members here.
The second half of your Post #1 in this thread is a reproduction of the standard warning for use of Off Topic, which was originally posted by CD some time ago.
I'm not sure what your point is.. I can assure you that plenty of latitude was given prior to your recently received PM "warning" purely because you were posting in Off Topic.

Pickle,
Try not to take it so much to heart. I know it might seem like the mods are jumping on you, but think of it more like a courtesy letter, I don't speak for them but I think they are just giving you a heads up. They (the mods) have multiple means of keeping the forum members from going too far, and you've only just encountered - level 1, the "note". Just be cool about it and let it slide, they aren't jumping on you with two feet. The mods have a tough job to do, they have to sit there and delete spam posts, filter through people's whining and complaining, etc, and one way for them to do that is to drop you a note saying, hey, heads up, you're causing trouble.
If they were really irritated with you they'd take away your ability to post for a few days and give you a chance to think about it, that's like level 2, when you're really screwing up.
It's rare that they outright ban anyone unless it is obviously a spammer or something, or someone who is just causing so much trouble and doesn't ever get the hint that there is no other recourse, but it does happen. I don't have any idea how many people they have to ban, but I know it happens.
Like I said, I don't speak for the mods, I'm just saying this because I think they are usually very fair. We are lucky they take time to do that job for us, they are on our side, if it weren't for them this place would be a complete waste of time because it would be filled with spam and so much fighting between personalities that it would take over the forums.
The mods are on our side, don't shoot the messenger.

here, here..........
easy, boy. dammit, calm down! i also wish this was an old workshop where we and a bunch of our buddies could kickback some brews and talk about whatever we wanted, and not have to worry about offending some individual, but this the best we could do for you on such short notice. have you ever checked out fight club? i don't think anyone has been admonished for posting there, except for me. c'mon over and talk all the sheot ya want. i'm not sure if you can fight, cause ya can't seem to get yer finger outta yer nose in order to take a swing.......

I'd like to think the off topic section should be a little more open, maybe even restricted so the adults can talk a little more frankly. I have learned that moderated is good. There are posters that will drive others away, it really is up to the moderators to make the calls and for us to follow.

Arch, the mods have traditionally been very shy about getting involved in the content of the discussions, they are great that way, especially in off topic where the topics can be pretty far out there and the discussions heated. What they don't seem to like, however, is when you break the rules which are clearly stated - it is the personal attacks, excessive profanity, naughty images, and that kind of thing that they don't tolerate.

Pickle,
Thank you for sharing the well written warning letter. It is interesting to see how the moderators are earning their keep. The moderators have the pleasure of reviewing all of the flotsam that passes through this site. I have been around long enough to have seen them struggle to create balanced rules in order that reasonable people will have a good time.
I applaud the moderators for their attempt at handling the matter that provoked them to warn you with discretion. I have said the following a couple of times before in PMs, but since you've chosen to share your letter, I'll share my thought on the subject of decorum publicly; we are all guests on this site, and should behave accordingly.
This site is supported by a business that sells sailing equipment. Everything posted here is a reflection on them, and their customers. Every post here should be thought of as being posted on the bulletin board in your local W-Marine, and read by anyone from 6 year old kids, to 90 year old salts.
Try thinking of it this way; if a guest on a vessel were to complain about another guest's behavior to the captain, the captain is obligated to try to resolve it. If you care to follow the vessel rules, and contribute to an intelligent discussion, great! If you can't behave, don't be surprised if you are spoken to by one of the crew. If you still can't behave, you may be escorted ashore at the next stop. If you appear to be "going postal," you may be thrown overboard.

I'm also just recently recalling seeing a "Superpickle" on SA. They allow a few more things their than here, if the handle is one and the same. I personally prefer to stay away to a degree from there for that reason. Altho I will paruse some of what I know to be local race info, ie what is going on etc.
In the mean time, being as I do moderate two other forums myself, moderating is a hopeless job sometimes.........I personally would prefer to not use the delete, or modify post button if folks can stay reasonably sane. One thread yesterday I interjected some other topic to try and slow things down, it worked! but not always......
