Coast Guard has to decommission five maritime safety and security teams

recommendation was made in response to the president's request to reduce federal spending.

"The president's budget proposed to decommission five of these," she said. "We had to decide which ones based on our budget this year."

If Congress approves the $10.8 billion budget, security teams in New Orleans, New York, San Francisco and Anchorage, Alaska, would also be shut down.
I swear, when I read crap like this, I want to choke the living sh*t out of this moron.

You want to deduce the federal budget asswipe ??, take the credit card away from Pelosi, that will save 100,000/yr on alcohol, you can save several million a yr by telling her to stop with oppropriating military planes to fly her nasty ass ( plus family) all over the country.

Gawd, what a jackhole this guy is

Sen. Chuck Schumer is protesting an Obama Administration plan to eliminate an anti-terrorist Coast Guard unit that keeps watch over the city’s harbor.
“They are our eyes and ears,” Schumer said of the elite, 90-member Coast Guard unit established after 9/11. The unit provides terror-related surveillance and security for waterfront events like the Fourth of July fireworks.
Obama’s federal budget, released last week, calls for transferring the unit to Boston, where it would be combined with Beantown’s Coast Guard Maritime Safety and Security Team.
“If there was ever a plan that was penny wise and pound foolish, this is it,” Schumer said.
He sent Napolitano a letter asking her to abandon the plan – and vowed to block it in Congress if she does not.
“The whole New York delegation will rally against this,” he said.

This is our Senior Senator in New York (crazy Chuck), who has been in lock step with Obama,Pelosi, and Reid. They can't Blame this one on Bush! It is good to see some division in the ranks.

Schumer vs. Pelosi vs. Reid vs Obama... These guys are all imploding...

They thought they had a mandate to do whatever THEY wanted. When in reality the mandate is to do what WE want. And we want the Coast Guard.

The morning news here in New York.

1. Obama has not ruled out trials for terror suspects in New York - The Hill's Blog Briefing Room-.
2. Clinton – al Qaeda Is Greater Threat Than Iran, N. Korea
3. Intelligence chiefs say another terror attempt on U.S. soil is 'certain'
4. Schumer Protests Elimination of Anti-terrorist Coast Guard Unit

These guys are all over the board and can't connect the dots. This is not rocket science. If this is change we can believe in, I for one can't believe the change they want to make by moving the Coast Guard Unit out of New York.

Who in their right mind, would suggest eliminating the coast guard from one of the busiest harbors in the country in a city that has already been attacked twice and targeted countless times....oh...and let's have a terrorist trail there...to show the world how fair we are...when we've already declared them guilty......insanity...

You can't pay teachers, fire, police and Coast Guard when you're bailing out banks, auto industry and providing endless "social safety net" programs.

Why do you think politicians support social programs over infrastructure? Because people will vote for you if you put a government check in their mailbox.

You may all be right but as a businessman I know you cant look at one part of a budget in isolation. What other services are in place? What other measures are taken to cover the responsibilities of the units? Are the units that are gone already duplicating efforts?

We shouldn't simply hear "Coast Guard" and jump to its defense as if its loss will be a disaster cause they are the good guys. Just like we shouldn't hear Military and do the same. These institutions are big bureaucracies and as such have huge built in inertia to change and often large inefficiencies as a result. In that aspect they are just like every other government department its just their role is different and often way more dangerous.

My message, dont jump to conclusions. The public is often the barrier to real change and improvements in the way our public institutions function.

Oh and if you dont think that the miitary and coast guard services have any deadwood you never served in them.

Good Point. Sept 11 2001 proves that. The most expensive, high tech military force known to mankind and 4 jumbo jets (still on radar and visiible, even if you turn off the transponder) fly un-opposed off course for over 90 minutes, entering Washington DC, doing a loop and crash into the pentagon. They hit headquarters. All while our military is twiddleing thier thumbs..

Robert Bowan one of the developers of Star-Wars (SDI) claimed that the USA spent over $ 2-Trillion dollars developing Star wars. Human Beings cant think fast enough and revealed that computers and tracking devices in space and earth monitering everything.

Another point you missed is the privatizing of our military using contractors like Haliburton and Blackwater. These corporate Welfare programs with thier lobbyist money power. That coast guard money could be much better spent in afganastan, Iraq, Yemen or Pakistan.
