alternate uses for marine paints

has anyone ever used a marine paint to refinish a bathtub? this was actually a suggestion from an employee at Lowes. If you have ever done it, what type of paint did you use and how did it work out?

Ever poured hair dye on the painted hull of your boat? Ever scrubbed the painted hull of your boat with Comet? Ever invited a wet angry hissing cat or a squirrelly dog to claw at your freshly painted hull?
If you think this is absurd, it explains why painting a tub is a really bad idea. It simply is not durable enough for daily abuse. that is why tubs weren't painted in the first place.

"Marine" and "employee at Lowe's" should never appear in the same sentence as the word "suggestion," unless the words "truly terrible" are included.

An old friend had a bussiness restoring Bath-tubs. He would grind and sand the tub, and he used a two part system. It wasnt cheap, but he has been at it for many years. He would rent a spot at the anual home show, and receive enought bussiness to keep him busy. You could pick any color in the rainbow.

I bought old regualr Petit Marine Paint at the boat show. It sat in my garage for about 20 years. My sons built skateboard ramps and after mixing it up well it looked good. Its been about 5 years now, still looks good, but I wouldnt use it for a tub.

If you really want to make the tub look like new you need to spray an acrylic urethane resin. Like the pros do when they refinish.

Of course proper preparation and removing the years of crud and soap scum is needed to assure a proper bond.
