History of sailnet?

Hello all

I was ready the following thread
http://www.sailnet.com/forums/off-to...lars-work.html

The original owner of sailnet was mentioned. I am curious what is the history of sailnet?

Thanks
John

In Canada we do not talk history, too dangerous. Religion, politics, child brides, all ok but not history.

CalebD will become famous soon enough
If you want a different history of sailnet I suggest you check the thread 'Big Freakin Sails' that smackdaddy has taken over. The older stuff is best.
As I understand it sailnet.com started out as a dot-com bubble stock and lost a bunch of money and is now operated and owned by different folks. They seem to do a good job now. There actually is an on-line store hosting this forum.
Not sure when 'sailnet.com' inc. started up but I bet you could google search it.

You crack me up linking a thread that I started to yours. Very funny!

I think Caleb got it pretty well right. I first joined Sailnet in 1999, so they were around back then, at least.

The original company went belly up in the aftermath of the dot-com crash (I forget exactly when that occurred -- early-mid-2000s, I think.) The current incarnation was purchased out of bankruptcy by a partnership that sponsors the Sailnet Forums and sells marine-products through the Sailnet.com store and Marine.com.

Dude - what are you talking about?!?! I started the BFS thread! Do you mean the FightClub thread? If so, you're right, it's glory days started at about page 343.

Sailnet started as a listserv and offered personal web pages. Hubby joined approx. 1996 as humblesailor. That sign-in was lost in the termoil.
