i'm a longtime supporter of the fairtax. a lot of scoffers on this forum try to explain how and why it won't work, but over twenty two million dollars was spent on reasearch of this system. i hardly believe the typical armchair economist/politician could find fatal flaws in the bill. there have been several books written on this issue, proving it would be the best possible tax system for America.........

the fair tax wont work, as the rich wont have to pay a higher %. also the poor will have to pay taxes and thats just not fair. why should a guy who makes a mil a year only have to pay the taxes as if he only makes 50 k a year, just because he lives like he only makes 50 k. then what about the thousands of poor irs workers who will loose their jobs. then you forget about the now huge black market in used and smuggled goods. i mean that sea container of tvs that where not taxed and where smuggled across the canadian boarder is just tax evasion that will add up to a few thousand bucks a year

I like the Fair Tax a lot. My only real beef with it is that it is somewhat regressive, even after the prebate.

While I don't agree with the logic that labels the tax "regressive", I like that a massive percentage of the population will have to be comfortable with the one rate. That can only mean less government, which automatically means more freedom and growth.
