I think staying away from the hotspot is a lot safer than doing a gun battle. For what a bass you can buy on ice in the grocery store? Why not just fish where it's safe, or go to Safeway....pun intended.... ...i2f

Pirates taking $200-$500 from Americans that stray over the Mexican border... I wonder what would the US do to Mexicans that strayed across the border in a boat? My guess is that they would be arrested, processed, and deported.

However, this sounds a lot like what the Mexican police do to Americans that stray across the border in rental cars. I have always thought that they were pirates, and never have, nor will, ever enter Mexico as long as I hear similar stories.

It would seem that as long as the pirates stay to the Mexican side of the border, this is not that big of a deal. However, if the pirates were to stray into, of all places, Texas (!), I believe that they would be risking their lives from the get go. Good ol' boys practicing self defense would likely lead to quick escalation, leading the US authorities to get involved and bring more firepower.

A 75 sq/mi lake on a river shared by Texas & Mexico is easy to avoid, a 3500+ sq/mi corridor between Ensenada Mexico & Oceanside,Ca. is not.

I understand avoiding known priacy areas like somalia and the likes, but here we are talking literally our own back yard. I don't know, I'm getting a little tired of being warned when traveling within our own borders and waterways

Maybe the question should be, when do you stop avoiding areas and start making it as dangerous to be a priate, smuggler & trafficer as it is a sailor ?

Start forcing them to calculate the risk of the unknown

1st you have to recognize there is a serious problem, make up your mind that you will not be a victim (avoiding areas in your own country), uncover your long repressed sheep dog attitude, get training if needed and take your country back. The government will not be able to do it for you for numerous and some obvious reasons. The rest is up to you.

It's not too damn easy if you are sailing from California to Panama.

You've got to be kidding anyway right? Are you actually suggesting that we let a group of hoodlums dictate where we can sail in our own freaking country?
God help us if your attitude is representative of Americans in general.

I can tell you this, I will not go down without a fight and I won't be too afraid to sail anywhere in my own damn country that I want to.

When I had a fishing boat playing cat and mouse with me off Baha California one night, I had my 12 gauge loaded and ready to be passed up to me. And I would not have gone down without a fight. Just like I won't go down without a fight if I'm accosted at my local gas station.

I can't believe what pu$$ies so many of us have become in this country.

I'm with Knot on this...

we should take the damn country back from those that feel entitled to my goods, my hard work-gotten gains. We have made, and this president even more so, it easy for the majority of the country to feel that what they want, they can have regardless of ownership, simply by taking it or whining to their congressboob.

if we would do as nesl suggests "It is quite easy, avoid areas which expose you to a risk...even within the USA !"...I would not be able to leave my house, between road rage on I-95, gang crap along the Rt 1 corridor, the drug runners up and down both, the druggies and crooks looking for their next mark...or simply shopping at Walmart, when someone wants your car more than you do, or your groceries

there are just too many areas of the good old US of A that a regular, non-confrontational, live and let live guy or gal is not welcome to even walk around, let alone transact business.

I guess that is why I like my boat so much...a lot fewer options for me to lose my boat than those things on land...and I can have the snakecharmer nearby for those that want to test

my boat will have my .45 auto loaded and ready.. But with all this talk lately i'm thinking bringing my semi auto ak47 with me..

After reading the entire article i'd jsut suggest opening fire on any approaching vessel...Some of you might say "well you could be shooting at mexican fisherman" Well to that I say,, "They should know better than to approach these days"..
