Any Jeep owners out there

Im thinking of getting rid of my Saab and getting a Jeep. That darn saab was obviously built by engineers and not mechanics.

here is what i am looking at

1994 Jeep YJ 4.0 HighOutput 6cyl, 69000 on dealer rebuild, NP231 T-case with Rubicon Express slip yoke eliminator kit, AX-15 with new Centerforce clutch, 12 custom 4 link suspension lift, Bilstien 9100 compitition coilovers with remote resivour, Rubicon express rear coil lift springs, Poison Spyder heims and joints, Warn front and rear rock bumpers, Warn side rock sliders, Ford Dana 44 high pinion front with disk brakes and full spool locker, Rear Ford 9 with disk brake conversion(not installed), brand new GoodYear Wrangler MT/R 37 12.50x15 tires, Currie anti-rock sway bars front and rear(rear not installed), Custom SNM Fab full rock cage, KC spot lights, flat mount rear taillights, no top due to being stole,

any thoughts/reviews would be much appreciated....

I avoid frankenjeeps- they tend to be built by guys who have all the catalogs, most of the tools, but none of the experience. Also they tend to be driven hard and put away wet. I've owned a CJ 8 (Scrambler), an FC150, and currently grit my teeth while driving a 05 Jeep liberty (it's an okay appliance, but i remain unimpressed). Unless he is asking wicked stupid cheap money for it, I'd pass- anything more than $5k is too much.

BTW, the tire noise will drive you bugnuts if you have to spend more than an hour behind the wheel

he's looking for 5800... i thought if he wanted i might just swap him for my saab + ask for 400 cash to replace the soft top.... kelly blue book on my current vehicle is about that or a little more. good point on 'frankenjeep' lol.

See if you can snag the hardtop on the jeep in the garage, since the top on this jeep got "stole" and make sure you get all the parts that are advertised but "not installed' yet. Seems like he isn't quite finished building the rear suspension yet, but he's sort of got the front end sorted out. That's a lot of tire and axle to be turning with the stock transmission and a 6 banger with 69k on a rebuild. At least your SAAB was built by engineers- this jeep wasn't. The more I think about it, the lower i am revising my value of it- an offer of $4k would leave you enough room to cover the cost of fixing whatever has been improved.

I've had four over the years (CJ, YJ and 2 TJs).

If it's really running a spool in the front run the other way. Spools have no place in the front axle, and shouldn't be used in the rear axle except off-road. A locker (expecially one that can be switched off) is much preferable.

The YJ has leaf springs and a fairly wimpy frame. I would recommend a TJ instead, in particular a Sport or Rubicon model.

Happy wheeling!

By the looks of it, he's done a coil conversion and ditched the leaf springs.

aye, the road noise will drive you bugnuts.
also, take a gander at the driveline u-joints, they're not going to last long at all, no matter how much you grease'em. the angle of attack is just too much, even with the slip yoke kit.
If you get that far, make sure it comes with an "awwshite" bar, with the COG that high, an 18 wheeler is going to give you problems, not to mention any turns over 30mph.

Its hard to beat the fun factor of a Jeep Jeep (CJ& Wrangler's), I've had a CJ5, Wrangler, and Grand Cherokee.

FWIW, I would be sure to throughly checkout any vehicle which has had a lift added like the one you show above. Could be perfectly fine, but if a hack did it you will be spending $$$ to fixed it and possibly driving a very unsafe vehicle.

All of the Jeeps I've owned were problem vehicles, especially the 98 Grand Cherokee, I'm very thankful I opted for the extended warranty on that one.

That said, they are a beast off road and in the snow in my experience. My CJ5 saw some decent off roading when I lived in Virginia, I was impressed where it would go...with 35" tires BFG M/T

In the past we drove to Moab every year. Not much wheeling now after a buddy died in a rollover in Utah.
